That offer is so fucking insane with the amount of money in the league now and a player of Lascelles quality. Van Djik went fo £70m. Stones for £50m. Lascelles should be around that amount too.

Maguire went for 18m and most people think he's the better player.

Was down to his last year of contract.

He wouldn't go for less than 50-60 today though.

Lascelles wont want to leave, not yet at least. Unlike many of his fellow professionals, this lad is highly intelligent. He knows he’s on to a good thing here, especially while Rafa is manager.

He’s proud to wear the jersey and represents us better than any player since Shearer probably.

He’s by no means a world class player, but it’s his overall leadership and way he commands his troops which make him so valuable to us.

It may not happen like that for him at another club, I keep thinking back to the career Joleon Lescott could have had if he made better career choices..

20m? They are having a laugh  I can see us selling on deadline day for £25m with add ons :(

remember back when Rafa was linked with WH and people were saying why would he go there... for all their flaws, they are an ambitious club and will finish above us comfortably IMO. Backing their new manager it seems. Meanwhile Rafa is looking at the free and loan isle when shopping.

And if Ashley decides an offer to be too good to refuse or if WH double his wages? Lascelles is a good pro, an intelligent guy and seems loyal to Rafa and vice versa, and he undoubtedly loves it here and would want to stay here for many years, but he will put his own personal interests above anything and anyone if push come to shove.

If he has any ambition at all he would be mad not to be looking to move onto a bigger club in the near future that can match his ambitions and reward him financially at the same time. Same applies to any of our better players and the manager as well.

The Ashley NUFC cannot keep players like Lascelles because he won’t achieve anything with us and we won’t pay him the going rate in wages. That’s the reality. We won’t even break our Edwardian transfer record or back a truly world-class manager in the transfer market.

He can do better than WH though.

Sadly that includes us too :(

I have no idea how this will turn out with Rafa at the club but with every other offer of cash for a newcastle player, Ashley has sold the player and brought in some cheap arsed replacement at the last minute and trousered the money.  So as a club under Ashley, he does have history with this sort of thing.

First time under Rafa this is happening though. The first summer we had to do it due to relegation, the second summer we had no first team players of real interest to other clubs (did we reject a bid from West Ham for Shelvey in January or was that just paper talk?). Can see it going the same way as before though once figures start creeping over £30m.

If it creeps over 30 then I can see Ashley thinking £££££ quids in.

I can see a figure of 35m sealing the deal in a couple of weeks, with us insisting on the fee being paid in installments, leaving Rafa with a fortnight to rummage through the bargain bin (to sign a replacement, with the available cash in the bank).
