The debate about his position and playing fucking everywhere is relevant, but Gouffran has basically forgotten how to kick a ball. He lacks some of the most basic skills these days and though he was never brilliant I can't believe how utterly garbage he is now. Williamson is worse than both and Elliot probably is too. One that doesn't win freekicks, goes awol defensively, and creates less than very little. I had hopes for Riviere after that header he scored in preseason last year, but he genuinely looks hopeless in this league. Williamson is out of his depth, and is also error prone. Neither is acceptable for a CB. Eliot is out of his depth, looks unfit, and smells of Pardew. Obertan is very poor, but better than the other four. Hmm, Gouffran it is. Obertan has shown that when he's up for it he can produce good runs and a decent cross or end product, unfortunately these performances are few and far between, but the ability is there. Gouffran has been stopped of confidence, he doesn't know what his job is since Pardew has him doing various different things, no doubt including collecting Pardew's laundry. Like Obertan he has produced displays which shows he does have the ability, even if like Obertan these performances are few and far between. Willaimson is just fucking shit though, even in the few games where he has looked good they have generally been against lower level opposition, and he has been protected by other players. Willaimson over the last 2 years or so has been at fault for pretty much nearly every goal we have conceded, be it directly, or by other players being dragged out of position to cover him. What is more is that he just doesn't seem to give a shit, his attitude of barking at other players once they have cocked up because they were covering for him, and his attitude and performances towards the end of last season show this. Last season he was rather like Owen the year we went down, he was quick to dismiss himself of blame and responsibility, the difference is that Owen made it obvious that he wanted out, Williamson doesn't want out because he knows no one else will give him a chance. No penetration at all and it got to the point where everyone despised him because of it. Now he just couldn't give a fuck. Obertan actively breaks down every other counter attack he's involved in. A team full of dead people could probably get a draw against team Obertan. A team full of Alan Smiths would comfortably beat a team full of Williamsons fwiw. If I had to start one of them now (on the wing) though it would be Obertan every time. Saying all that, my vote goes to Mike Williamson.
