Saivet Shelvey Sissoko Wijnaldum Ayoze Mitrovic Not that its a huge problem, but I'd love another new option other than Perez for wide left, hes been awful lately, offering very little. This is the issue we have at the moment, its becoming clear that our best no10 option is Wijnaldum but we have far too many people in the squad to play in that role and no actual natural wide players. Think Perez should be used as impact sub for a while and show something if he wants his place back in the side. Granted, if we came out and said "£12m is our budget for this season" and that's what he cost, I can see people question it, but as it stands the transfer fee has zero to do with our concerns. The United goalkeeper, who is emerging as a player of the season candidate this term, has revealed that Shelvey turned down the chance to play for TWO clubs in the south to help Newcastle fend off the threat of relegation. Alan Pardew’s Crystal Palace were understood to be keen on Shelvey, but Elliot says the England midfielder was keen to sign for the Magpies. Elliot, a close pal of Shelvey from their days at Charlton together, told the Chronicle: “I told him what it was like here, but he wanted to come here anyway because he wanted to come to the biggest club. “I think that says it all, who we are as well. The fans are going to love seeing him play. “I can’t believe we signed him for the money we have paid. He could prove to be an absolute steal and he could be a legend here. “He is just 23-years-old and has his best years in front of him.” Shelvey will hope to follow in the footsteps of Londoners like Rob Lee and Les Ferdinand. Both are still much-loved figures on Tyneside who defy the myth that Geordie fans don’t take to southern players.
