He was technically a good player but had no heart or lungs for that matter. A better comparison would be to Colback. He was certainly better than him. But I hate CM's with no positional discipline. I even dislike Fabregas as a CM, Gerrard boiled me piss at the top level there so can't imagine i'll enjoy Shelvey. He's always reminded me of a poor man's Steven Gerrard, Charlie Adam is also in the bucket for me. Capable of some brilliant passing and long range goals. Always looking to play a proper pass - sometimes too much. Aaron Ramsey seems to be the best poor man's Stevie G i've seen. Delle Alli seems to disciplined fro that label. Charlie Adam is too slow so not really what we need in midfield to address our lack of mobility in that area.
