Disappointed like most about this. You could almost understand him wanting to move if he'd signed in the summer and bought into the top eight and cup run shite. But he joined in January, under McClaren,  when we were already fucked. To bail now when, despite relegation, the club are starting to feel truly United with the city and the fans, and we have one of the best managers in Europe, and go to Palace and play under Pardew. Well then fuck him, and fuck him really hard. Right in the face.

He signed with a contract that would allow him to leave should we get relegated. Both parties agreed. This was always on the cards.

I agree, and I think it was a good clause as it turns out, we don't need players who don't get this club. He'll go the same way as Remy, cork-screwing downwards to oblivion.

Will be Townsend's 12th club aged 24

Omg, is that some kind of record at that age.

Gonna be off again when Pardew ruins him.

Wildly disingenuous, that - they're pretty much all loans. He joined us - his local club - at the age of eight, and we only sold him last year, at the age of 27 24.

I think he's making a mistake, mind.

He's still only 24 - a season in the Championship under Rafa could have been the making of the player.  If we miss promotion he probably then could have the pick of clubs.

What idiot would leave that to play under Pardew for anything other than ££££.

If Pardew is seen by Townsend a most of the media inexplicably see him (good, solid manager) then you can see why Townsend might have had his head turned, easy route to the premier league, arguably more chance to show his stuff to get a permanent England spot and if he has a good season someone in the top half might come in for him anyway.

From his point of view it makes sense, we were just daft enough to believe he had some affinity for us and Rafa for plucking him from the obscurity of the Spurs reserves and getting his career back on track, could have given us till Jan.

Can see both sides really, but that's the way of football these days, no loyalty at all.

Perhaps the fact that there will be a new England manager is also a factor especially if he is a foreigner.  He will have to prove himself all over again and chances are he would be ignored in the Championship.

Football is a team game at the end of the day. Whether you play for England, Tottenham or Newcastle, commitment should be a given. At Pardew's Palace perhaps not so much, this is the same twat who crowed about signing Adebayor.

Even with an English England manager, no player in the championship has a chance. Maybe fourth choice goalkeeper or something. If Townsend has had another taste of England and can't let it go, you can see why he would want to move. Just a shame it's Pardew/Palace.

He was ignored by Hodgson in favour of an out of form Sterling. Hopefully Pardew gets the England job and they can both crash and burn together.

Next tournament is 2 years away, also Guttierez got into the world cup squad in the same year we were in the Championship.

Just think for a lad who's suffered years of moving from one club to another, never being allowed to settle, this is a stupid thing to do.  He's settled on the pitch for us quickly, the fans like him and the club is looking positively to the future with a top class manager and him as one of our main players.  Likely a season dominating the Championship and he can hopefully go back into the Premier League as a integral part of a side he knows and plays week in week out with full of confidence.  Instead he's going to move again, to a side that was arguably the worst side in Europe in the second half of last season.

Well the Next England manager might be :)  Or Townsend might just be part of a team dominating the league under a top class manager and get into the England squad anyway.  Fact is we aren't going to be the normal Championship side as far as media attention goes, we weren't last time.  There's no reason he'd necessarily be ignored.  At worst he could compete to get into the squad in the year of the world cup when we've (hopefully) been back in the Premier League for a year.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2016/06/30/crystal-palace-win-race-to-sign-andros-townsend/

Crystal Palace have won the race to land Andros Townsend with the club hoping to confirm the winger’s signature inside the next 48 hours.

Townsend has agreed to move to Selhurst Park after Palace triggered a £13 million clause in his Newcastle United contract.

He is correct to leave for a EPL club.  I wont blame him for this, and he is one of the fews that really give us all in the relegation fights.

The problem is he is joining a sinking ship that wont do him any good.  Its DAFT.  Playing under Pardew is shit, playing behind Zaha and Bolasie is even shitter. What is he thinking? Bench warmer again?

I wonder what the terms of meeting the clause are? Since we always pay up front for all our transfers, surely the clause would use the same terms. For example what would stop a team like Spuds coming in with a 13 million bid but they pay that over 20 years !

Since the news broke, I've had a little time to digest, after initially not blaming the guy for wanting to go, I'm starting to agree with the thought process of why the fuck can't he show a little loyalty, 15 games really, to leave for a club like palace really ! Think he should have at least given us 6 months, if we didn't look like we were coming back up then no one would begrudge him moving on.

This is probably just the start of the exodus, Colo will follow, then Thauvin, Sissoko, Janmaat and Gini probably not far behind. I'm glad we are looking to plug the holes though before they form.
