Still incredibly only 5 points from safety, Brum winning today though was huge from a momentum perspective, if any of those other 3 teams in the mix with Sunderland are to go on a run and get clear it's Brum and that win will help them greatly. Only 8 games left now.

“Only 5 points” = 2 wins.

They’ve only won 5 in 38  Based on that, it’d take them 15 games to earn those 2 wins.

Lucky b******s. Both Barnsley and brum  have back to back home games, really need to make them count.

Really it might be brum that get out of this rather than Barnsley.

They've lost their last seven in the league, like.

Keep faith in the Jaspers ;)

tbh i didn't realise they'd changed managers (decent appointment as well) so looks like it could be them

I know but ffs, they should be dead and buried already, last year they would have been. If they win all their games now till the end of the season (which is obviously not going to happen) they will reach 52 points, Blackburn went down last year on 51, they are so lucky that three other teams are just as awful as they are.

Since the start of the 2007/08 season, Sunderland have won 100 league matches - 35 fewer than any other club to have played in the top four tiers of English football in each of the last 11 seasons.

But 6 in a row.

Pardew's went way up in my estimation. Him losing derby after derby and laying the foundations for the 6th in a row, lead to Sunderland clinging onto life year after year has been a big factor in them being in this mess. Had they just dropped 3-4 years ago they might have been able to regroup and come back.

They won more games in their 38 Premier League games last season than they have from their 38 Championship games.

What a stat that is. First time they've started to look adrift in the table also.

Naive question.  Read on Rtg.

You can't blame kids from Tyneside, mid Durham etc., for dumping us and following the mags . Thousands left us in the nineties and their kids help swell the St. James' gates now .

How much truth is there in this? Appears to be quite a sore point.. the Keegan side. Comes up a lot.

(Not from the North East. )

But they didn’t ‘lose’ any fans did they? Their numbers didn’t go down. Ours went up but that was more in line with the general increase across the country following the increase in exposure/popularity due to the formation of the PL.

Someone in a Newcastle top rocked up on the pitch for today's half-time shenanigans.

EDIT: He was part of a group raising money in memory of Bradley Lowery. Still won the crossbar challenge apparently.

He won it and then did a lap of the pitch celebrating like Shearer apparently

You hear plenty of Mackem accents in the ground on matchdays.
