If we didn't have ten years of Ashley behaviour as proof of the man's football idiocy and general cuntishness, you can see in a vacuum why a chairman may not sanction a deal on £50k p/w plus for a 35 year old backup goalkeeper.

I don't understand why we are annoyed at the lack of incoming transfers.  What Ashley actually said in his interview was Rafa could spend every last penny the club generates.  To me that was using the future tense so it's money the club has yet to generate that Ashley was pledging not the transfer profit from our promotion season.

How is that using the future tense? The club generates this money from promotion - whether it's there or not RIGHT NOW is irrelevant, it is coming in so even if money was put in by Ashley it can be offset at the end of the season if you want to take this argument.

What Ashley is doing is knowingly twisting his words and moving the goalposts in the hope that he can force Rafa to walk or have another club take him off his hands before the end of the season, then that way he can appoint yet another yes-man and not fulful this promise built on lies and deceipt.

Anyone defending Ashley over this is a f***ing idiot, completely naïve and absolutely deserve this shower of s*** Newcastle United. Crack on.

Beat me to it! Actually, Ashley is the poorest billionaire in the world so couldn't afford to loan the club a penny to receive back when we receive our Premier League money

Both spot on. For anyone who hasn't seen the potential of a forward thinking manager, an ambitious board that backs him, and a United fanbase did to the club and city during the Keegan and Robson eras I pity them. They're in for a total shock if it ever happens again. This club, if it ever gets going, could be fantastic.

They're the minority (that I've seen) thankfully. I expected a lot more people like that banging on about negativity tbh.

Rafael Benítez open to job offers amid anger over Newcastle transfers

https://www.theguardian.com/football/2017/sep/01/rafael-benitez-job-offers-newcastle-mike-ashley-west-ham

I think he'll stay until next summer. I think he's irritated and annoyed but will work with what he's got.

Next summer though, he'll wants a fuckload more money and rightly so. The fees that are floating around the Premier League this summer are the fees we should be able to spend (not the ridiculous amounts but the £20-30m bracket) after a year being on the Premier League gravy train. If he doesn't get that, then he'll definitely be off.

Tend to agree, but this summer will have confirmed to him that January wasn't a blip and they can't be trusted. Reckon he'll be open to discreet discussions with other clubs as of next week, where previously he'd have been completely focused on his future with us.

It's hard to take that article serious when it says:

no longer believes it will be possible to fulfil his ambitions of leading the team back into the Champions League under Ashley’s administration, without a fit specialist left back.

Aye having no left back is the reason we'll not qualify for the Champions League. Nowt to do with being a newly promoted side still with a championship squad, oh and it was never our goal in the first place.

I totally agree with you, but it got me thinking about just how realistic would our chances have been.

I'm sure Rafa was (still is) intent on being the best we can be. IF we had got a quality LB in that would have been every position covered with no stand-out weaknesses.

We'd obviously expect some injuries throughout the season, but with Rafa's squad management/rotation, and all-round general organisation, we could cover quite competently, and probably make a decent season of it.

A few strokes of luck and who knows, a couple of bad runs for the top clubs and we could be there or there abouts. Fuck sake Pards went into the last 2 games with a chance of Champions league.

Obviously bad runs for top teams happen less often than Halley's comet, these days, whilst an eclipse is pretty much guaranteed every other year. But if you're wearing your shades when Halley goes by, you'll miss the opportunity of a lifetime.

Teams have pushed on since then, we have declined since then. The aim was never CL, in fact there was no aim. Rafa said we would take things one game at a time and see what happens.

I don't think its all doom and gloom with the lack of late window signings, but I can't help but think that if we are struggling at the bottom end of the table come January that Mike will then open the purse strings up and do a heap of signings to try and turn the season around and avoid the drop again when it should've been at the start ofthe season to set us up for a good year.

Benitez has been consistently undermined to the point where it would understandable for him to actively look elsewhere.

If this is now the case, what I don't understand is why he would break the exclusive to Louise Taylor. I need to hear it from someone else first.

It is for another time whether the club has learned anything since but it does believe there is currently a major discrepancy in the figures that have emerged since the window closed. They insist more than £40 million has been spent on the six players Newcastle have signed this summer and that the initial incoming figures for their two major sales, Florian Thauvin to Marseille (£10 million) and Lewis Gibson to Everton (£6 million) will be a fraction of the actual total.

Yep - it's their continued idiotic policy to pay for all outgoing transfers up-front so they have no right to use it as an excuse! Stupid bastards!
