It was a team selection which clearly showed he wasn't that bothered about the cup, but you would still have expected the players to have shown more than they did when they got their chance. At least that will have opened a few eyes as to the poor quality of some of our fringe players.

Describing some of the starters today as fringe players is very generous to be fair.

If they can't compete better against Oxford Utd you do wonder why they are at a club like Newcastle in the first place.

A cobbled together team that was always likely to be s***, although we should have been 1-0 up at half time and at least level in the second with the pen by the sounds of it.

It's a crap feeling this and one as NUFC fans we are accostumed to in the FA cup.  Just need to move on 2 massive home games this week coming and hopefully a transfer or 2 in.

I'd be absolutely flabbergasted if Ashley is dictating to Benitez which teams to put out. Really don't think for one minute that that is happening. A, Rafa wouldn't be here and B, Ashley doesn't get as involved as that.

Was clear that Rafa felt those that did get the chance today let themselves down badly. Was from happy in the Press conference #nufc

Ryder's grammar almost as bad as the result.

Today's result is at best utterly abysmal but let's not get carried away. Rafa was always going to & still has a lot of work to do on a club that has been run into the ground ever since ashley took over & with the last 3 managers we've had that work is going to be a long hard road.

As a manager one of his main jobs is to make sure the club carries itself with a certain level of dignity, today he put out a bullshit side and got smashed by a far lesser team, he has really let the fans down.

Easy to say like, but we missed three sitters and a penalty.

Have we come from behind to win this season? Seem fucked once we go a goal down. Not comparing them in anyway, but it was the case under Pardew for ages, as well.

When conceding first, no. Norwich we came from behind to win but did score first there.

I remember saying this last season, but no matter how much I liked Mitro and Perez I just didn't see enough goals in them to keep us up. Nothing much has changed it seems. A few nice flicks or chest passes isn't as effective as putting the ball in the net on a regular basis.

Don't really have too much of a problem with the selection today, credit to Oxford, they stayed in the game and took their chances when we were determined to waste ours.

Biggest concern is we're still far from comfortable dealing with setpieces. That's got far more potential to fuck up our season than not having a cup run.

Don't get me wrong, not making the next round is pretty jarring, but given our priorities this season the Hull loss on penalties probably hurt us more as we were much closer to making a final. Especially being ahead in extra-time.

Concentrate on the league, use this loss as an extra excuse to bring some squad/first-team players in before the window closes and this could turn out to be a blessing in disguise.

I suppose in hindsight think the radical change in line up ended up being too much. If anything should have perhaps started with a more recognized one with more senior names and then subbed in the second half ideally when we have got a good hold of the game and a goal or two up.

However, despite all those changes I thought we had enough in that team to win here. A bad day at the office, will probably be one of his worst this season.
