The other games today 2016/17

You literally cannot judge any player, let alone a keeper after 1 game, but here we are   Can think of plenty of examples of players (especially keepers) looking jittery early on after a transfer who go on to become solid first team players for years.

DDG for Man Utd a prime example.  Selz is growing in stature here.

Weird how Swansea went 5 at the back today and West Ham did too against Man City a few weeks back, both failing miserably. We did it at Stoke and got pumped under Pardew. Van Gaal didn't have much success with it lwith Man Utd Has any manager had much success with it in the Prem?

Think Martinez did it a few times with Wigan which won them a few games but most of the time it  seems that teams don't really have a clue what they're doing in this division when it's implemented

On principle more defenders seems a terrible idea to me. It's control of the midfield where games are won and lost, protecting the defence should be the priority.

Yeah, feels like managers put an extra defender in there to make them less likely to concede but it just results in confusion and less out balls. On the other hand, in other divisions and internationally a well drilled five/three at the back can be great to watch

At the same time though, it's late on where teams are more desperate and more likely to start lumping the ball, so can make sense to stick an extra head in the centre. Like we did v Reading.

Yeah I understand it more from that perspective. Although Big Sam did it with Sunderland, put O'Shea on against us and Southampton to make it 5 at the back and it resulted in them losing 4 points. Just starting with it very rarely works in this division
