Bimpy474
That's what we need a couple of players who are seen amongst the best in the championship and have proved it Absolutely, but i think Rafa is looking at players he also thinks can do a job in the Premier but haven't had that chance. It's a great way and really is low risk especially if you get up.
xLiaaamx
Knockeart wouldn't really be a worry about stepping up I don't think.

Tubestationatmidnight
Wouldn't worry about next season too much just make sure we are good enough for this season first. Plus the money if we do get promoted plus Rafa in charge and our status as a club will allow us to sign quality if we get promoted

Tubestationatmidnight
Exactly that yeah. Just focus on getting a quality championship team then can build on that next summer with the extra money. A United Newcastle with Benitez as manager and back in the premiership would be the biggest draw in the league other than the usual top 5 or so to a lot of players
Guest
Seems quite a while when we haven't signed a player we've made an initial bid for? Only player I can think of over the last 14 months is that full-back who chose Valencia. Think we'll get Knockaert if Rafa wants him.

Guest ElCid
If we want players unfortunately we are going to have to pay over the odds to get them as clubs know we have money. Gayle was at least 4 million overpaid in my opinion and Hanley at least 2 million overpaid. Ritchie was about right in the current market.

Paying a million or two over for proven championship players isn't really a big deal for us, Gayle and Ritchie could be argued to have done the business in the premier as well tbh, given half a chance. toontenacity
Knockaert is class. My Brighton supporting mate has been saying all year that he's the best player in the league. To get him for mega $$$ from a title-challenging rival would be incredible - akin to City going and buying Hazard

Considering the investments and all the incoming players so far; would we want him to stick around for a second season if he is unable to get us promoted on the first attempt? loki679
Last season Rafa was playing inverted wingers with Townsend on the right and Sissoko on the left, maybe he's going to do that again. I hope not, like. I like a winger to get past his man and stick in a good cross rather than cutting in.
Guest chicken little
my biggest worry is if we don't make it this season does Rafa stick around for a second year in this division i have my doubts given our material advantages, if we don't go up this season you could hypothetically make a very strong argument for sacking rafa all moot anyway, as we're going to smash the shite out of the league. promoted by christmas, if not earlier. Wallsendmag
So the Manchester United of the championship? Man Utd aren't that good. The Barcelona of the Championship is surely more apt.

For the like the hundredth time that I've seen on this forum, I'm glad you have absolutely nothing to do with the running of this club. I'll leave it up to the people in the charge with far more nous and forward thinking than you.

Having wingers that just run in straight lines and get down wing is just not that effective these days, you need players cutting inside and overlapping fullbacks to try and stretch / overload defences. I think you need 1 player playing on their natural side I.e. Aarons, although he cuts inside and has the pace and movement to do it. Doesn't Ritchie use both feet, sure I have seen him cross and shoot with both.
