Newcastle United transfer rumours in the press

Recommended Posts

Yeah we needed like 9 new players and we have 5 of them, it's still nowhere near enough and i doubt many other clubs needed anywhere near that much.

Aye. It's why the whole 'other clubs haven't made many transfers' argument doesn't wash. We're in a different situation to other clubs.

Was it ever realistic that we would sign nine players?

Still time yet.

Absolutely over a month before the window slams shut, I think the final number will be around 8 or 9. The one thing I will say though is how many of those are automatic starers, as of right now, Murphy and Lejunne are the closest to being in rafa's first choice 11, both have a bit of competition to get past though. But the bulk of our first 11 is pretty much the same as last year.

Everton misfit Oumar Niasse is reportedly attracting interest from a trio of Premier League clubs.

Brighton, Burnley and Newcastle are all in for the Senegal striker according to the Sun, who reckon that the Seagulls are leading the chase.

The 27-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Hull after falling out of favour at Goodison Park.

If the reports from the talk-in are true, and there's unlikely to be a big money striker incoming, seems like Rafa has pretty much resigned himself to just staying up this year. Although I still think we'll bring a striker in even if it's on loan. I just don't think Rafa rates Mitro or Perez enough to take a chance on Gayle being fit for a full season.

I suppose De Jong and Aarons are like new signings :)

If they stay fit it might boost us a bit. I would like us to shift Mitrovic on and bring in a striker to compete with Gayle and we definitely need an attacking midfielder. Apart from that I don't see us making improvements attacking wise. Are Ritchie, Gayle, Shelvey, Perez, Atasu/Aarons/Murphy good enough to keep us up which is the ultimate aim. They all have ability but i'm not sure they are consistent enough at that level to keep us up. On the other hand we might have a surprise element about us.

Wouldn't go for King - has all the hallmarks of a one season wonder.  Not convinced by Gray either to be honest.

Already hit Bournemouth up with a derisory offer so fairly dead in the water.

King is good imo. Good footballer, finisher and flexible in terms of positions too. Can't see him going for less than 20-25 million though so no chance.

Gray isn't anywhere near as flexible, and can only really play one role. But with his contract situation and Burnley lacking the financial backing of AFCB he'd be far more attainable.

Seems a late developer to me. Was highly rated as a youngster, didn't really get going at a big club and out on loan, but is starting to blossom now and still has years left to improve.

To be honest I'm also not convinced he's as prolific as he appeared last season. But when I've watched him he seems a good allround player, and goalscoring isn't the only thing he offers anyway.

ST > AM > LW > GK > LB > CM remaining on my personal wish list, in that order.

With Merino here and Manquillo capable of covering at left-back, those positions have dropped down a fair bit.

Still think we could stretch that far if we're able to shift all of the crap on our books, but was hoping we'd have seen at least one further departure this week.

I'd bump GK above LW but that is being nit picky. Basically exactly how I feel.

I think that's the key really, there's only a small pool of strikers we could realistically go for. Obviously with a smaller spend you are going to have to take a chance on them not being one season wonders. We don't have the funds or the pulling power to reel in the £50m proven strikers.

I'd bump GK above AM as well. We already have De Jong, Diame and Shelvey on the books who could do that role, while they aren't maybe what we want ideally, they can do a job for a season between them until we have the funds to upgrade properly. Striker and GK come first for me, anything after that is a bonus.

I'd rather use a GK as AM than Diame.

Striker > Keeper > AM.

I'm quite surprised so many posters are relatively relaxed about the keeping situation, like. We know how poor Elliot is and Darlow was often a liability in the Championship. A good keeper like Reina would do so much more than help stop us conceding daft goals.

Wouldn't be surprised if Ritchie featured in that role a bit this season likez I think he'd be good at it too fwiw.
