Group B - Wales (Q), England (Q), Slovakia (Q), Russia

Recommended Posts

Two strikers.

Thats the difference man, finishers. Thats what they do.

Not just that but pace and movement, if you have to play Rooney deep and all this over s*** at least give him something to aim for.

Well yeah exactly, forwards have the instincts that playing Lallana/Sterling upfront you're going to miss. Kane's been hard done by here, as he's not had the chance either Vardy or Sturridge just got. Mint though, glad we got there.

I think Kane's class, but i don't think he's particularly a good fit for this side. Vardy and Sturridge are both better suited to what we have imo.

Keown has just said Walker has been the tourney's best right back!

I don't think that there's anything wrong with saying that. I think Walker and Rose have been excellent in both games.

I have to say, I think the England matches have been the best two matches that I've seen this tournament.

          Vardy      Sturridge

                      Alli

      Lallana    Dier    Henderson*

*not really happy with Henderson, tempted by Barkley, but should be Townsend really.

"Thankful to God for letting me score"

Not for nothing, religious athletes seem to have that extra edge to their game.

 Bollocks.

Of course they do, man. See F. Ameobi.

Tbf, Shola is extremely religious and he definitely had at least one extra edge to both of his feet and his head.

          Kane

  Vardy        Sturridge

            Ali

    Rooney  Dier

I think Kane's on the verge of losing his place, couldn't argue either.

I think on his performances so far, yes, but I think the overall selection hasn't helped him. I think put more attacking options around him and he improves. Might be a bit gung ho, like. But it's quick and penetrating (giggidy)

Do like Beren's, too.

Do agree with Shearer about Rooney. He's really found a place back there, worthy starter without a doubt.

Waste of a position for me today.

If we're going to play without wingers (which is going to be the case for the rest of the tournament, cos we didn't bring any) Rooney's movement, positioning and ability to spread the play is crucial. The only time we get wide is when the full-backs find space and Rooney picked them out every single time - he's not made one bad pass in either game.

He's been unlucky not to score in both games too; I can see him nicking one from the edge of the box against Slovakia.

I don't love our style of play but it's ground-out four decent points. Should have been six, obviously, but we go into the last game favourites to top the group. Rooney has been vital for that and credit to both him and Hodgson.
