McDog
Maybe he should play more, assuming it's never at LB. Murphy was pretty bad today.
Ronaldo
He was actually decent tonight by his standards but it’s plain to see he’s got nothing left in open play and he knows it too. Trippier’s set pieces were far better, but that’s a given.
54
Just now, Ronaldo said: He was actually decent tonight by his standards but it’s plain to see he’s got nothing left in open play and he knows it too. Trippier’s set pieces were far better, but that’s a given. I said in the match thread, but you can tell his technical side is still at a reasonable ability, it's just he doesn't have his legs anymore, which will always be his limiting factor. Thought he was probably our best player from the first 11 today tbh. When he does move on, he's probably the player from the Rafa Championship era, that I'll look back on the most fondly, the wee Scottish radge. Ronaldo
He was excellent in the Championship but that was over nearly 6 years ago. He symbolises the Ashley era perfectly unfortunately. Get back into / stay in the PL but who cares if it’s soulless, predictably uninspiring football that scrapes a place in the bottom half.
TheBrownBottle
I thought he was ok tonight. It’s a shame that there’s a few of these players who were given ludicrous contract extensions by Ashley - if Ritchie had left around 2018/2019 he’d have secured a warm fuzzy place in the memory banks - not as a great player, but one who worked his balls off, clearly cared and got the club back to somewhere approaching where it belongs. Instead, every passing season takes the sheen off that. I doubt he’s too bothered by that, but it matters to me
Yorkie
Played pretty well and it would have been a nice moment had he not hideously ballooned that brilliant chance.
King HTT III
You can tell he is a hard trainer as he looked super sharp, but it’s really time we moved on from starting the likes of him even against a L1 side in a cup competition.
54
Think it's becoming more and more evident that this is the reason he tends to be be kept around, wouldn't surprise me if he becomes an Under-21 player coach like some clubs have.
The Prophet
Good on Longstaff. It's pretty fucking disgraceful he was allowed to get into that state in the first place mind. Steve Bruce is a weapons grade cunt.
HaydnNUFC
What he says on Howe; "We had conversations when we were sorting my contract and he was saying stuff I don’t think even I believed. He believed in me, and lots of what he said has come true." Keegan-esque.

NE27
It's so weird seeing him back in the team after what feels like forever. Radge bastard.
54
I know he's well past his sell buy date at this point, and should rightly be moved on, but I still love this radge Scottish bastard, although part of me hopes he becomes the U-21 designated "Oldie" for the reserves similar to what Ashworth implemented at Brighton. Be ideal for it. Top pro and would keep the younguns standards up. Probably toughen them up as well Edited March 13, 2023 by jack j
Myleftboot
If I was Elliot Anderson I wouldn’t have been happy Ritchie came on instead of me.

I don't think Howe sees Anderson as a wide player at all. Seems to only play him central midfield.
Rich
Anderson was ready to come on when we got the winner, wasn't he? Stripped off and then had to sit back down again.

He was playing out the game with experience. Absolutely the right change. Anderson may be young but needs to "do it". He hasn't yet.
Rich
Like a phoenix from the ashes this mad bastard. Played his part tonight, tidy as.

duo
Like the way he warms up with the starting 11 before matches - clearly just wants to feel he is a part of it.
joeyt
Out for the season. Probably means he's played his last game for us? Sounds like he's a huge presence in the dressing room though
