Newcastle United 4 - 1 Reading - 17/08/16 - Post-match reaction from page 38

Players that aren't pulling their weight are dropped, including the captain if needed. Not the best lineup ever and we'll have to see if it works out, but generally this is what we've wanted for years.

Worked out. :pow:

So happy for Gayle. That Pardew rust being shaken off now, there'll be no stopping him. Fantastic little striker.

Tell you whats impressive about that, misses a pen & doesnt get this one. Yet still has the confidence to stake his claim for the free kick against Ritchie, many players wouldnt have the self assurance to step up.. Got it through self belief, sounds a great strike fair play.

Anita did really well by the sounds of it. Keep him at RB

He's been really good everytime he's played there, unlike Janmaat who i can't remember him ever having a good defensive performance.

Hopefully he stays the starter until further notice.

Tonight was all about rotation. We've got another game at the weekend, followed by the cup then a really big game against Brighton.

The fact he's played all four centre-backs just proves that he's mixing things around to A; keep the players fresh and B; figure out his best team.

Hopefully Mbemba, Hayden, Ritchie and Gayle can form the core. I like Mbemba and the other three all seem like talented players who are doing well for the team.

Despite the questionable selection, it was evident there was more balance to the team with Gouffran playing and Anita away from midfield.

Could always utilise Janmaat on the wing for now and push Ritchie more central.

SanToon who was at the game saying Shelvey shockingly didn't track anyone. He's the main issue when they countered. Clark good aside from the pen, won a lot of headers, good from corners defensively and Mbemba was class.

To me, this is a perfect performance and result. Important to get a decisive win to get the weight off our backs, but especially to do so having dropped players who didn't really perform while also more or less experimenting with different pairings, partnerships, and roles. This is a squad win. It's going to have to be a season where we rotate quite a bit so everyone, including the players, just needs to get used to it.

It was always going to be a big adjustment to the Championship for Rafa and for the team. As he and they learn how to play more effectively in the division, they'll also learn who performs best and in what specific role.

Them hitting the bar and then the goal came down his side like.

That's that settled then.

No real surprise there, he's a lazy sod and the definition of a luxury player.
