Imagine it's a WC final and the linesman calls that offside.  Ref can do nowt.  With this, they got the correct decision and with experience it'll get quicker  Literally cannot see the problem like

A world cup final decided on that shite :anguish:

So you would rather that appalling decision from the lino be kept?

aye, much better it being decided by a linesman giving a blatantly wrong decision with the ref powerless to do owt about it

We'd hopefully not have a joke of a referee in the WC final though.

All referee's are going to make bad decisions, it's natural since they are human.

In all honesty that was a better example of VAR, it was a horrible decision. Still we've just seen it used twice in one game after never been used (before this month) in over 100 years. It's just not needed imo, this 'should we celebrate or not' craic will be awful.

Video reffing is going to cause some serious anger when it comes to red cards and penalties. At least offsides are a basically black and white decision.

Sanchez looks offside for the last goal as well

That is what it should only be used for, or if a foul is inside or outside a box.

Agree to a point but what if the replay shows it wasn't a foul?

Original decision stands, the referee has given the foul but he's wanting clarification of whether it was inside the box or not.  The whole thing that needs to be sorted out are the rules around it and the process of making a decision.  The referee watching the game needs to be proactive and understanding where they will be called for, for me they seem very bone idle at the moment hence why decisions are taking too long.

Looks offside to me. Don't think they even looked at it

Can't make anything out from that angle since it doesn't cover the pitch.

Is he not being played on by their left back (out of view)? There's only 3 defenders there.

The LB is the one right in front of him (whoever it is playing the ball)

 aye I've just watched it. So yeah, just an embarrassment all round then. Ref makes the wrong call then the VAR misses an actual offside.

But ultimately how will that be satisfactory? If it's not a foul what can he give inside or outside the box and what can the VAR give inside or outside the box?

That's a good point that I hadn't thought of.  Then would a challenge system when a team gets a challenge each be better, teams would only use them for when blatant mistakes have been made and you would only get a few challenges a game so little disruption to the game overall.

As usual FIFA have implemented it an absolutely shambolic way.  If you get the process right then imo, decisions should only take a matter of seconds to decide for stuff like offsides.

If it's not a foul but the ref went to VAR, he gave the advantage and opportunity to the attacking team.  If it turns out not to be a foul (or a dive), just give a free kick to the defending team where it incident was imo

Could say it's technically something that might happen where referee gives the foul but linesman then says it was a clear dive and then ref reverses the decision?
