Village Idiot
Just saw the US result - I checked Argentina early in the morning but I took US' qualification for granted and didn't bother to check the TNT game. What the hell happened?
Flip
Based on the FIFA rankings it looks like the pots for the World Cup draw might end up being Pot 1 Russia, Germany, Poland, Portugal, France, Belgium, Brazil, Argentina. Pot 2 Spain, England, Italy/Croatia/somebody else, Switzerland, Colombia, Uruguay, Peru, Mexico With Brazil and Argentina not being allowed to play Colombia, Uruguay or Peru, there's a big chance England might end up in of their groups. Deuce
Just saw the US result - I checked Argentina early in the morning but I took US' qualification for granted and didn't bother to check the TNT game. What the hell happened? Short story: poor player/tactical selection, poor play, terrible field conditions, opponent who wanted it more Long story: culmination of half a decade or more of program mismanagement

Did you see the state of the pitch in the Bosnia v Belgium game and that wasn't deemed an excuse because Belgium dealt with it
Village Idiot
My very uninformed opinion is that there's too many of the USMNT players playing in the MLS. That whole "repatriaton" trend of the past few years to bring them back to the league has hurt the competitiveness of the team's backbone, imho. Away Day Gadgie
I know nothing about Panamanian football except there used to be a fairly decent Calgliari striker called Julio Dely Valdes around 1993ish. I always thought he'd be a good signing for us (I was about 10 at the time and fancied myself as a bit of a football scout) (Totally pointless post i know but probably the only time i'll ever get the chance to share that fascinating story.) Get big Blas Pérez on that bloody plane. Aye, 9 of their top 10 most capped players are in the current squad - ladgeful for Luis Henriquez but I'm sure he'll attempt to come back for it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panama_national_football_team#Player_records

It’s improving and there have been notable successes (our current RB, for one), but this is true. Pulisic for example certainly wouldn’t have developed this well had he gone the high school -> college route.
