Newcastle United 2 - 3 Nottingham Forest (AET) - 23/08/17 (post-match from p20)

Recommended Posts

Darlow looked terrible for all the goals

He was clearly limping after an early challenge and rolled/threw the ball out for the first few afterwards. Had my suspicions he was still struggling when conceding two in quick succession.

FFS!  Souness was right in his pre-match on Sunday (fuck, I hate saying that)..... two or three bad matches and the sky falls in.

What was Rafa saying in his talk-in at Shearers?  Will be tough times but when they happen we need to stay united.

Genuinely wondering....are other fans of other clubs like this or just us cos of the soap opera bullshit that normally goes on with us?

Others are arguably worse, I'd still say we've got more reason to moan and worry than most.

I think the latter doesn't help. Souness probably has a point but not for the reasons he supposes.

Quick summary:

1st half even. 2nd all NUFC. Same again in ET.

Darlow was injured midway 1st half.

Saviet again looks better than Colback.

Diame better again deeper.

Murphy more polished than Aaron's but Aaron's more eye catching.

Lazaar and Gamez both ok.

Hanley messed up the stuff you'd expect him to be strong at regarding aerially but then showing surprising pace when needed. Odd performance.

Threw the kitchen sink at them but it's not that heavy.

Forest took all their chances. Just one of them games.

That's almost the opposite to joeyt's match report.  Weird how you can get differing views of the same match from different people.

Is it? Not the first time me and the young lad disagree if so  How did he see it?

Hanley was absolutely appalling. Forest's game plan first half was to play it down the side of him because they know he can't run. He gave away at least 3 pointless freekicks and kicked simple passes out of play often too. Mbemba did alright though for most of the game

Well, at least the players playing further forward did something tonight. Can we maybe combine some of the front 4 with the defence that's been okay so far ((With hopefully Lejuene and Yedlin back)) and have a go now? Really don't want to see Ritchie Perez Atsu and Gayle as the front four on saturday.

Comment wise I don't see what he's said much different apart from maybe Hanley as doesn't say very much. With regards to that there was the odd moment on the deck he wasn't the quickest but then there was a couple of full on sprints you'd expect him to loose but didn't. Like I said it was an odd performance by him.

Thankfully there was no contentious penalty decisions for us to argue over

Generally I'm all for a cup run but realistically we could do without the distraction given our squad and seemingly endlessly shite academy.

Don't worry though, I'm sure we'll pack Wembley with 40,000 for our Checkatrade final with the U23s to end many years of hurt (since our Intertoto win).

Hanley was awful for those first two goals. Got caught wrong side of the man for the first one, then left flat footed by a long ball over the top for the second. Maybe he was doing a Costa and trying to get his fee lowered with a crap performance.

Barlaser 7 - the pick of the three CMs, and subbed?

:dowie:

Have to say I never noticed the lad. Remember him down Oxford and he was poor. Birmingham at home he was so so.

Thought he was quite tidy on the ball and nothing more. Mainly sideways passes and indecision.
