Cheating ffs

He was just quicker to the ball, in the 0.00001 of a second he had to decide to go for the ball, I doubt he thought “if I boot the ball out of play, I’ll get kicked by this man and I can dive to the floor”.

That’s exactly what he thought; clever play. Look at where he is on approaching the ball, he then turns his back towards Legeune wanting contact to come, he then only just catches the ball wuth his toe (look where the ball goes), he’s on his way down just before contact and then hits the floor and looks straight at the referee. Clever play. At no point does Long even contemplate actually beating Lejeune with the ball under control and be in towards goal. Surely everyone can see this.

using your core to protect yourself from a challenge is a basic thing to do in football.

Anyone calling it cheating is just being salty. Long in that position has nowhere to go, his best outcome is to win a penalty. The fact he was able to draw the foul is good play from him and stupid play from Lejeune. It's a stonewall pen and I don't think any of our players / Rafa even argued the decision.

Guest Howaythetoon

2 points dropped from what I saw of the match, we've had worse days at Southampton so I would have took a point before the match, but we could have won this one which irks me.

We are doing OK though, competing, looking a threat up front and showing great character, work ethic and team unity.

If Long had kicked to ball out of play by the time the foul came in, should it not have been an indirect free kick in the box?

If the ball was kicked out of play before the foul was committed, then it would be a goal kick. And just a card (color TBD).

You can only give a freekick when a foul is committed when the ball is in play. Out of play, and it's just a card.
