Amanda Staveley and Mike Ashley yet to have showdown meeting but talks continue with formal offer expected soon

 

Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley is yet to have a showdown meeting with Amanda Staveley and PCP Partners.

 

However, a formal offer for the club is still expected soon from the group headed by the 44-year-old financier from Ripon.

 

PCP Partners have also been in contact with Newcastle through legal representatives and talks are ongoing with both sides now knowing they are working towards a Christmas sale.

 

But while there are four other parties that have signed non-disclosure agreement forms, it is believed that Staveley’s group are closest to making a formal offer for the Magpies.

 

That is the next stage of the deal - and a bid is eagerly anticipated by Newcastle fans who are desperate for a fresh start for the club after years of disappointment.

 

As reported at the end of last week by the Chronicle, PCP Partners have a valuation of £300million for the Magpies and any formal bid will need to be carefully considered by Ashley and the United board.

 

The Toon owner’s legal man Andrew Henderson made it public that Ashley would consider staged payments for the club and any up front offer could be tempting for the Sports Direct magnate.

What next?

Staveley is not expected to be in attendance at Burnley tonight for Newcastle’s next fixture, and Rafa Benitez played down takeover talk in the build-up to the game.

 

He said: “No, nothing (to say). I said before that we are not talking too much about that and I think some players have said the same.

 

“We are not talking about that, we are just concentrating on trying to prepare for the games.”

 

Daft Question Time :-

 

If you read her wiki page, it states that she was part of the team (pcp partners) that did the Man City deal etc etc.

 

So - is she buying for herself ? or on behalf of 'interested' parties ?

 

And if Ashley did sell, we would then know who the 'real' owners were ?

 

It's just never been made clear.

It's her financial advisory firm. Apparently was involved in the Man City takeover and also the Barclays bank bailout so not just to buy a football club.

So she's just the representative of an as yet un-named buyer or buyers?

Think it's been well documented in the press that she's purchasing us with the funds within PCP and she'll be chairwoman. They all might be wrong though. They usually are.

This is how I was lead to understand it as well.  She would take an active position on the board if the take over was successful.....

If we assume the press is it at least right about her interest and that it's backed by PCP in some way (which it would have to be as she does not have nearly enough personal wealth), then it's most likely either:

 

A) She's looking to add a football club to the list of the group's holdings/investments. She would, presumably, be the chairwoman in this instance and would be expected to deliver returns to all the investors (as discussed, this would not mean we'd be run with an eye on an annual profit - much more likely to be a long term play based on the club's value continuing to rise through both a bigger global brand and ever-increasing TV deals). There wouldn't really be a single owner in this scenario - we'd be owned by PCP Capital.

 

B) She's the public figure in the search for a PL club for a much smaller group (potentially as small as one individual). In this scenario she could remain involved post-takeover, but also possible she's not at all involved shortly after the deal is done. At some point we'd hear person X is behind the bid or a consortium including A, B and C led by person Y. Depending on who is involved this option would be more likely than the other one to lead to (something resembling) Man City levels of investment.
