The lad in the Gulf has just said that the deal is not done yet. An increased bid has been made which looks promising but nothing has been agreed thus far.

Fun sponge. [emoji6]

According to Sky it's sources close to Ashley that have leaked the story.

There's been an underlying inevitability that it will happen for some time, the curry date all but confirmed it but quoted prices and time frames remain little more than conjecture from hacks desperate to have a story.

Just out of interest, why is there so much dislike of Charnley and eagerness that he goes?

He may well of course, but hasn't Rafa commented on more than one occasion that they have a very good relationship ?

Okay he comes across as a typical boring bean counter (apparently he even makes his missus pay for a ticket) but those who know him seem to like the guy and running the club between Ashley and Rafa must be quite an achievement in itself.

I suppose because he has absolutely no experience or qualifications to hold the position he does. He's another Ashley 'yes' man and that's the only reason he was fast tracked to MD of Newcastle United.

Of course he gets a lot of backlash purely for being at the club under Ashley tenure, but there are also legitimate reasons for the animosity towards him.

But hasn't Rafa said that he works well with him?  And out of interest which "qualifications" is he missing to be MD or CFO or whatever his title is ?

He has, which i guess has to count for something. To a degree I think they're both in the same boat - completely in the dark day to day and feeding off the small crumbs of information and money that Ashley releases on a whim.

It seemed a very odd appointment at the time though - to jump up from Club Secretary to MD of one of the country's biggest football clubs is a huge promotion. At the time we were in a bit of mess and hoping for someone to come in and give us some direction and communication. That hasn't happened but to be fair it probably isn't all Charnley's fault.

Maybe the criticism is unfair, he's just a more visible target than Ashley to direct our hatred and fury at.

The identity of Staveley’s backers remains opaque but the 44-year-old is believed to have secured funding from the Middle East - quite possibly Saudia Arabia - and China. A skilled negotiator possessing peerless contacts in the Gulf, she previously masterminded Sheikh Mansour’s 2009 takeover of Manchester City.

Staveley’s latest ambition is to try to put Newcastle in a position where Benítez’s team can compete with City in both the Premier League and the Champions League.

If the last sentence is true...  :megusta:

True. He's definitely under-qualified for the position but definitely agree with the bit in bold. I don't think anybody could manage that relationship any/much better at all, whatever their qualifications.

That would be beyond mental.....  It has been years since I can honestly say we had a good transfer window, this one may just be the first of many exciting ones for us!
