West Ham United 2-3 Newcastle United - 23/12/2017 - post match joy from p31

Went down on Saturday. Probably one of my favourite aways that I’ve done. Met up with my uncles hammer mate, was very generous about us and predicted a win before the match for us too.

As for the match, pretty good game for a neutral to watch. Frustrating, exciting, nervy and joyous as a Newcastle fan to watch.

Stadium is a good venue, just not for a football match. There’s next to nowt going on around it, tube is a 15/25 minute walk from the ground, with absolutely nothing en-route.  A pretty soulless experience in all honesty. No character, no nowt. It’s a stadium which should’ve remained an athletics stadium or other multipurpose venue however 200m ‘home’ for Fuck all and profit from selling Upton Park is a win for the porn barons I suppose.

Stratford station which has a tube station, network railway station, and a DLR is basically across the road (it’s not even a road, there is a moat around the stadium and a railway line), Pudding Mill DLR is even closer. Between the stadium and Stratford station there is Westfield shopping centre which has bars and restaurants. The aquatics centre is opposite the stadium, so too is the Orbit. Ok so you’re not going to go for a swim before or after a match, but the offering there is no different to any out of town stadium, or dare I say it city centre stadiums.

I agree that it’s not a suitable football stadium and the owners have ripped the heart out of the club by moving there. However you can’t say there is nothing around it or it’s a distance away from public transport, because it’s simply not true.

Maybe it’s the way that security escort fans to the ground but I’ve been twice now. Once for Bolt’s last race then this game and on both occasions the walk from the station was a good 15mins passing absolutely nothing of note.

Been twice as well, once for the Olympics, and once for the anniversary games. The anniversary games was obviously quicker not nearly 15 minutes away including security clearance time. At the Olympics it’s only the security clearance which made it a chore to get in, you won’t have the same level of clearance and many people attending for West Ham.

Eh? The stadium is max 10 minutes from a major tube station which is attached to a massive shopping centre with loads of restaurants and bars as well.

It’s soulless obviously but it has loads nearby.

The security must make it worse on match days I suppose.

The problem is, after the match, the stewards won’t let you go the simple 10 minute stroll back to Statford station,

You go through this weird system where even walkers have to stop at stop signs and go round this circle that takes you away from the station then back to it, so all in all around half an hour to just get in the queue, Saturday was especially busy of course so in some cases it was a good hour from the match ending to some people getting back to Kings Cross

I kind of understand why they do it, but it has to be quicker than this, Upton Park was always a nightmare to get bck from as well but the fact you are so close then so far away from this tube station is bloody frustrating
