Seems mental to entertain this before end of window when Pope is out and he is having an impact.

Read somewhere it's contingent on Pope returning without any setbacks before the window closes, and then it will go through, otherwise he won't leave.

We really should have just paid what they wanted for Mamardashvili.

Interesting to see what they do with their keeping situation next season? Loan him out again?

Alisson will leave in the summer imo.

I think you might be right.

Would anyone take him for say £10m?

Wages are big but not prohibitive. Would probably get a couple of seasons out of him (maybe more), but we’d still probably have to spend on bringing a younger keeper like a Trafford in as well.

Maybe not the best use of resources, and he has been very injury-prone for a keeper in recent times.

This is the first thing that went through my mind when I saw Sima's post.

I'd be highly tempted but it feels too much like we'd be kicking the can down the road for a year or two before being back to square one.

I don't know how much of a difference it would've really made but God I wish we could've been able to offer Mamardashvili Europe. He may have still made the same decision but I think it would've been a much tougher one for him.

I think Alisson would perfect for us in this transitory period where we can't spend big for quality in every position. Yes it's not money that can be recouped, but 10m in the grand scheme of things is essentially throw-away spend now.

Means we still have money for a good RW. Whereas if we skip on Alisson we might need to pay 30 or 40m+ for someone of comparable quality.

I presume when Alisson wants to leave its not going to be for a club like us.

This.

He has also become very injury prone, would be on big money and I thought there was talk of him going to Saudi for a huge contract?  Not even sure he will definitely leave this summer, anyway.

I'm sure when he does go, there would be plenty of the top clubs in Europe after him who regularly play CL and would be able to pay more in fees and wages.  Not a realistic option at all IMO.  He is still one of the best keepers, if not the best in the world.

Sure, agreed on the point he might not be interested at all in coming here, but I was just thinking more broadly about the idea of signing a top keeper who'd we get no money for down the line from a squad development / PSR perspective.

Obviously I could see him taking a bigger payday from the usual retirement home suspects, especially if he just wants to boost his bank balance fund before his body gives up on him.

But I don't think it's too outlandish for a 32 year old 'keeper getting phased out at Liverpool to take a step 'down' to a hungry club that wants to consistently challenge for Europe. I just can't envisage another cartel club or the perennial challengers in Spain or Germany going for him. Maybe back to Italy? But we've shown we can compete with the likes of Milan for a player.

All that said, I'm still not sure if it's even the kind of signing I'd want us to make. He's obviously a fantastic 'keeper but I still fear it's kicking the can not very far down the road at all and we'll be searching for someone else again in a year or two.

His wages will be more than Miggy, Trips and Dubs combined.

Seems he’s ’only’ on £150k p/w. So large, but not prohibitively so, if there was any interest and/or chance of getting him.
