Don't get their 'wyke is shit' narrative. I mean yeah he's a league 1 player, he's not gonna have the first touch of pirlo, he scored a shit load of goals, i mean you kinda need that lol.

They can't handle players who only score goals and don't run around putting two footers in. Was the same with Grabban and Maja.

In other news one of their beloved local heroes and their face of Brexit has been done for child porn -

They say he’ll not score the same number now he doesn’t have McGeady handing them on a plate, but they now need to find someone who’s going to stick the crosses McGeady creates 30 times a season.

Shame McGeady signed on, easily their best player if not the best in the league. Had he retained a little more of his pace he’d have had good championship offers imo.

They’ve just let my boy go along with twenty other kids, no explanation or anything, he’s been there over a year and honestly as biased as I am in all the sessions I’ve watched him participate in he stood out. I know from other dads they regularly do that and then ask kids back, but that’s not gonna happen with my boy, I’d  rather he got let go at 7 than 15 and he’s been great about it, I’ve basically told him they have to give other kids an opportunity and it’s cycle thing they go though. Again poor communication for an academy though, really piss poor. Proud of my boy though and as a set up apart from their piss poor communication, it’s an excellent academy with great people and good young coaches. I wish their academy well, but the first team… rot in hell!

Shame that HTT, think he might get a look in back at our place or elsewhere?

I was more gutted for him as he had made loads of friends, but I always treated it as extra training away from his grassroots team and to be fair the standard is high, but again he stood out, physically, skills wise, technical ability. I know what it is he’s not rapid like some kids, but he will skin anyone with the ball at his feet. He also doesn’t have the best stamina but he conserves his energy well, he doesn’t run around like a blue arsed fly, but he’s 7. H’e’s at Boro’s academy, been scouted by NUFC 3 times (apparently they have to scout a kid 4 times then make a decision) and he recently did a Gateshead footy camp and they are interested in him joining their under 7s group when they launch (I got great feedback off Mike Williamson, Ben Clark and Matty Pattison). I  know he isn’t gonna make it as a pro, or if he does it will be some miracle and not at the highest level, so I just want him to enjoy his footy and any experience that comes along, academies or not. I asked the SAFC coaches for feedback, got told I’d get some info soon, and nothing, over 2 weeks now. Fuck them, their loss!

Shit but by no means the end of the world.  Sure if he's good enough he will do a Vardy.

Aye I’ve told him it’s normal and to enjoy playing whether it’s for Boro, his grassroots team or in the school playground, thankfully he’s a confident boy but very level headed when it comes to his footy. I’ve been here before with my nephew who was at NUFC’s academy for 5 years over a decade ago, sadly he had a bad experience and doesn’t even play anymore much less watch footy. This a kid Beardsley said to me my nephew could do things that he couldn’t do in an England shirt, I know it’s lottery! And regardless, my boy will always be the best footballer I’ve ever seen

Everything is for a reason HTT

Aye definitely and seriously, bias aside, I see what they are looking for and it’s at the detriment of skilful, technical kids, choosing kids who are quick and run around loads. He was let go and one of his former grassroots team mates was kept on, honestly, he’s a good little player, but has no real technical ability, skills or flair and just runs non stop and is quick, and they are playing an under 7 in their under 8s and getting hammered off Doncaster under 7s…

I got released from Newcastle under 13's under similar circumstances, i was a small passing midfielder but it all comes down to which coach is taking care of which age group.

Paul Baker took charge of our age group one year (maybe the year before i got released), i think he had some sort of senior role when Benitez was here (might be wrong), and he liked me as a player.

After one game he actually said to the team that how i played i.e passing the ball rather than just sprinting around, was the way to play.

Next thing was he went to coach the under 19's and we got some Sunday league bloke who just wanted big lads in, and i got released.
