I don’t see what’s childish about it. A terrible player ? He was a mainstay and healthy part of our team that finished 4th, when he was out we missed him. The childish bit is calling a premier league standard player (which he's proved) shit, terrible etc. Shit performance, terrible on the day fair enough, but in general its fucking childish. I hear a lot about how such and such will pay 10/15 million, but I just fail to see how anyone in the footballing world can watch him and think “he’d be a good signing”. He has a skill set which could be seen as desirable by many teams. He covers a lit of ground and can break up play well. We just have Tonali and Miley who can do the same and also pass progressively and look comfortable on the ball. I hope a Everton, West Ham or Leeds pay 10 million plus for him to allow us to buy genuine quality

I would never give him stick at the match btw, where it actually matters. You could hear loud groans today at times, and last week at Spurs he played a pass across their box and it was short pace, he got dogs abuse. But on platforms such as this it’s fair enough, imo. Heron Posted Sunday at 21:46 Share Posted Sunday at 21:46 (edited) As a Longstaff fan today he dropped his level and was awful. Edited Sunday at 22:03 by Heron
TheBrownBottle Posted Sunday at 22:01 Share Posted Sunday at 22:01 A proper ‘rabbit-in-headlights’ performance which the lad unfortunately has in him. He was terrible - but I still think he’s a PL-standard player. I suspect we’ve completely outgrown him, though, and in the summer he’ll be off to a bottom-half team to do a decent job. He's a squad player for us like. Will do a grand job of closing teams out but that's it. Love his effort, his desire, his local pride, everything. Love his fragility to some degree, reminds me that he's just a local and living the dream. Will always back him for that. Just won't take us to the next level. Really hope he's happy being a squad man for us tbh, that kinda desire to play for us is infectious to some degree. Terrymac1966 Posted Sunday at 22:09 Share Posted Sunday at 22:09 Local lad done good so respectful but not at trophy level and thats where the Saudi people see us heading...love you Sean but...be a magnificent captain of a team at the right level....that is one level above Sunderland ie Boro

midds Posted Sunday at 22:10 Share Posted Sunday at 22:10 No need or point in having a dig about him tonight, that performance today told us absolutely nothing we didn't already know about what he offers. A move away is best for all concened tbh
Ginola Posted Sunday at 22:12 Share Posted Sunday at 22:12 His strength's are not when we have a mass of possession. He's very limited, but he'll always look worse when we dominate the ball and more of a technical requirement is needed

Theregulars Posted Sunday at 22:21 Share Posted Sunday at 22:21 I don’t think it’s controversial to say he was bobbins today. Can offer explanations but at the end of the day he looked bad against league 2, that’s not encouraging.
Hanshithispantz Posted Sunday at 22:24 Share Posted Sunday at 22:24 (edited) Not encouraging? We know his limitstions, we've seen him make over 100 Premier League apearances. He's thanfully out of the stadting XI now, he's a good professional, will keep himself in top shape and step back into being a reliable squad player. He'll be behind Miley soon. I’d keep him as a squad player - I still think he’s a better player than he’s often given credit for - but the club might just look at Miley coming through and think it is time to cash in. Yeah. I think there's enough there to sugest he's a good squad player for us undoubtedly. Even a first teamer in certain circumstances. Just he needs to shake the habit of playing the same standard as opposition when they're of a lower standard.

You don’t need to. I’ll put it another way - if you have a squad player who hasn’t played well for a while and isn’t getting minutes, in my view you want him to come in and play well against inferior opposition and give you a reason not to drop them. Conjo Posted Sunday at 22:49 Share Posted Sunday at 22:49 The ott stuff about Longstaff and Almiron is so fucking stupid They are what they are. As a 6th choice CM (in the hope that today convinced Howe that Miley is ready for more responsibility), who is content to stay and fight for his place, knows Howes system in and out, is a great fit for the group socially and who loves the club and the area, I really struggle to imagine any club being able to find any better. He improved in the second half too, not that it changed the ridiculous abuse he got in the match thread. Can't remember him putting a foot wrong. Is it only our good players that are allowed to have bad sub-par performances without being unreasonably criticized?
AyeDubbleYoo Posted Sunday at 22:53 Share Posted Sunday at 22:53 Bit lenient to call him a 6th choice CM when he was starting every game a few weeks ago
