Yeah he was really good today. The way the game developed played perfectly for him and allowed him to do all of the things he's good at, the physical stuff, chasing, closing down spaces, energy and just being a nuisance in general is his perfect role. His limitations were never exposed and he was never asked to be creative in possession as the early goal set up the nature and tempo of the last 80 minutes. He was great, fair play, I'm never going to be his biggest fan but he stepped up today and delivered the performance he needed to :)

Reckon he'd be at the top of his game if he felt the crowd and fans were 100% behind him. For me, feels like that's the missing part for him.

He definitely seems impacted by all the negativity towards him and I can't blame him.

Fantastic performance. His pass out to Gordon for the goal may look simple but it was perfect and had to be to enable Gordon to put in the perfect cross. Perfect weight on the pass and no bobble at all! I criticise him a lot but buzzing for him and hopefully he can keep it up, defensive work was sensational

He’s a great squad player with a tactical purpose in certain games.

In games when we likely have less of the ball or require an agressive press like the last two, he’s got “something” he’s fine to live at this level.

In games when we dominate the ball, yes we likely need a better “football” player but he has a purpose he’s a squad player who the manager generally knows how to use and when.

I was annoyed when I read Longstaff was starting over Sandro, Eddie nailed it though, fair play to him.

Can the “he is not good enough””we need to replace him” bullshit stop for at least 6 months now?

With most people it depends on if we win or lose week to week [emoji38]

You think so? We won most games early on in the season when he played like.

Nah, not really I’m just poking some fun. I do find that he becomes one of the whipping boys fairly quickly when things arnt going our way though.

In his post match interview he said “fans think I can’t pass a ball 2 yards”… So you can see the stick he receives does get to him.

Think he suffers from being too local, if that makes any sense. He seems to be hyper-aware of the fan zeitgeist and, whether the criticism is justified or not (and I happen to think it’s over the top) it’s not great for a player’s confidence. Lad needs to somehow find a way to separate himself from all of that and focus on delivering more performances like this one.

Local lads are lightening rods for criticism, just look at Gordon at Everton or Rashford and Man U for example.

He’s never going to be a world beater but he’s shown he can contribute and he gives a shit. I love having players like him, Burn and Hall who actually support the club. Helps the squad’s mentality and it feels less mercenary.
