Similar to JDT he came within a whisker of scoring on his debut, I do wonder if their stats would have been better had those goals gone in. JDT of course has the Shearer injury in play, but Miggy has the fact he has been played out of position for most of his time here

Remember both Mitrovic and Luque having similar very near misses on their competitive debuts and thinking the same too. Mitro in particular was definitely trying too hard to score at times in the first season

That would have been a fantastic goal that - great one touch build up and the chip over the keeper bounced back off the post!

You can’t not love Miggy! Never gave less than 100% and always had a beaming smile on his face! The spell when he turned into Messi was something else!

Although his stats don’t prove it, he transformed us under Rafa’s last half season and we looked great going forward with him, Rondon and Perez!

Great memories of his two goals at West Brom in the FA cup just before lockdown and his song absolutely belting out from the away end! (See below!).

and that goal vs PSG!

All the best to him and he’ll always be welcome back at SJP!

Opening our CL account last season against PSG cements him in NUFC folklore for me. Hasn't stopped running since he joined under Rafa. If you do leave, all the best Wor Miggy!

He deserves more credit for the 2022/23 season than just the pre-WC purple patch. He scored in the first game back against Leicester, had assists in both the LC QF and SF, and had the only goal in a 1-1 draw with Bournemouth during our worst patch. And then he scored what I think is one of the biggest goals of that entire season -- no wins in almost 2 months in the league, losers of three in a row in all comps including the deflating cup final, relegated to a bench role for the first time all season, 1-1 v Wolves with 15 minutes to play, and up steps Miggy.

Yep. He was crucial to our general tactical approach as well. We're not the pressing machine that defined that season without him.

If he could have ever learned to kick with his right foot..

In fairness he did have a lovely link up with Bruno that season. When he's not on the pitch now i can see sometimes he's looking for passes like that but nobody is making those runs.

He’s going at the right time tbh. If Murphy was to get injured now and Almiron had to play the next 4 months he’d be hated by the end of it. Murphy has raised the bar significantly and we’d be a much worse team with Almiron.

Yep, moving on players at the right time has been something we’ve done poorly for a long time. So many of the Championship side would be really fondly remembered had Ashley not kept way past their sell by date (and made it impossible for us to sell them).

Dunno if serious, but DCL has similar numbers to Bournemouth era Callum Wilson, who actually played in a higher scoring team. If Eddie could get NUFC era Wilson out of him, he'd be useful.

Out of contract in the summer, so last chance for Everton to get anything for him. Its not as if Everton have much PSR headroom to say no even if lowballed. Since weird swapsies are all the PSR rage, one option would be to loan them Wilson himself because he is "back in February" (!!)

No I was, I can totally see this happening and makes perfect sense for me this window. I imagine you'd be able to get him for similar money as what we're getting for Miggy.

Howe obviously likes him, prem experienced, fairly low risk, still only 27.

Can see it happening.

I can as well tbh.

I feel like you lot bring up DCL just to make me mad.

I'm with you. Every time I see it, it makes me irrationally angry. He's a poor footballer, his clobber is embarrassing and he shouldn't be anywhere near this thread or any other

Busy day can someone catch me up. Why are we talking about DCL? Are there new concrete links or is it just that we've been linked for ages?

As for Miggy this feels like a great move all round. He's attracted way more flack than he deserves and I'll miss his goofy mug. However, a combination of his decline, I feel he's not got back to old levels since his injury last year, and the team's progression mean that he doesn't have a role here anymore that justifies his wages and missing out on a fee like this. A swansong at the club he really broke through at should be a nice end to his career.

I would rather keep Miggy than DCL. I was hoping RW was going to be a major upgrade or at least a younger player with a high ceiling who could grow into the position like Dibling or McAtee.  DCL is younger than Miggy but much more injury prone.  Would still love Madueke and a young RCB who can learn under Schär for a year.

Keeps me awake at night worrying what professional footballers wear.

DCL could be the missing piece of the puzzle.

For free and 200k a week? Seems like a true bargain in an age of finding cost effective gems.

Stick him out on the right and play those big diagonals to him. Sorted.
