The moment second half when he raced for a ball knowing full well even if he got to it he was going to get absolutely clattered epitomised the character of the fella, then topped it by holding the ball up in the channel within the next move. He'd jump in front of a bullet to win us the game this fella. An absolute lion !! What he lacks in technique he makes up for in passion and heart. The guy gives his all for the team and then some. Even tonight I kept thinking first half his touch and speed of thought looks lacking when up against some of the better players/teams. But he has such unique qualities that he brings to the team. I actually think he's underrated on the ball, his strengh allows him to turn into space and apart from the odd mad pass he's usually good enough to find a player, but don't think he did that too well today, like you say may be down to the quality of Arsenal's midfield. Newcastle Fan
Thought yesterday was a difficult game for him, for once i saw him get out muscled and not able to fully force himself against their midfield like he usually does, also its clear he's playing with an injured shoulder, i think he will benefit from resting the next game to be ready for Wolves. Lotus
His commitment is absolutely immense and incredibly important in competitive physical match.

KaKa
I've recently seen so many fans of other teams speak so highly of Joelinton. They are really envious of the physicality and ball carrying ability he brings. He sets the tone for the team every game as far as it's battling, gritty mindset goes. Really can't take this for granted. Even when he has the odd poor pass, or awkward moment on the ball. His intangibles are immeasurable, and other fans lament not having what he brings. Kanj
Still amazing to me that he was a left sided wide forward, signed to be a #9 to this midfield all-action dynamo now. His tactical awareness and execution coupled with his commitment, engine, strength and workrate are just second to none. He’s one of the best in the world at doing exactly what he does - he’s this hybrid player who seemingly has a different role at different areas of the pitch. Can tuck in as a wide defending fullback (see Spurs), can cover big men on corners, recovery tackles, hold up play, interchanging with a LCM as a wide forward, box to box midfielder, ball carrier…just unreal. Lush Vlad
Struggled first half. He was making some brain dead decisions I thought. Second half was more his game, as his off the ball work really came to the fore and we weren't relying on him to try and make something happen in possession. The one near the end where he chased a lost cause, stopped it from going for a goal kick, then stopped it going for a throw. To then hold it up and win us a throw instead. Just mad levels of athleticism and desire. The passion and drive he brings is just an intangible. As his stats are probably often quite bad on the ball. But I can't imagine it is much fun playing against him. He's like an attack dog just tearing about I said it a while back in here. But mates who support other clubs often message me saying how great he has been, MOTM in a game where they're watching as a neutral, moaning about him when it's against their club etc. I do think we take him for granted at times and we maybe would like a midfielder who's a bit more polished on the ball. But he's great to watch in full cry when he goes into battering ram mode. EDIT - I just read Kaka's post. Just read his. It's more concise Edited January 8 by Lush Vlad

Regarding his poorer moments, I also think they tend to stand out more because of how awkward or clumsy they can be at times. When you actually look at his numbers they really tell a story of how solid he actually is with the ball.
Lush Vlad
Yeah, I suppose it is more his passing. He is great driving forward with the ball and trying to crash the box or run into the channels. Which those stats kind of back up.

His attacking output put him in the top 90% percentile then you look at his defensive contribution and it only drops off slightly. Madness.
KennyUtd
Becoming a bit of a thing in the media recently about how much Big Joe gets away with. Along with our supposed time wasting. Particularly on TalkSport. They had a bloke on today saying we get away with stuff because we're from the North and those fancy Dan's from London (his words) should stop complaining. They'll never accept us being a real threat and a good football team. It kills them.
KaKa
You've got to understand that these comments are huge compliments. It's just their way of coping with the fact their favourite teams were dominated physically.

He's always on about Pope time wasting too. He's a little obsessed I think. It's pathetic. They'd absolutely love our midfield. They also have Romero so it's the pot calling the kettle black really. My worry is when it becomes a topic of conversation like this, it'll seep into referee thinking. I mean, he does tread a fine line but every team needs a player like Joe. Lush Vlad
Joelinton stands out like a sore thumb. Bleached hair, big old unit, passionate, does love a foul and a big challenge plus he is always arguing with, well..... everyone On the subject of Spurs. Kulusevski has a bit of a nasty streak in him I reckon. The elbow against Chelsea that he somehow got away with. When you see that and then the Gordon incident. It makes you wonder how accidental that fully tensed shoulder to the face really was. Romero is an absolute mentalist and then Bergvall should have been sent off last night and for his age loves putting it about. Looks a great player already, TBF. Son got 3 reds in a season once. But of course 'HE IS NOT THAT SORT OF PLAYER.' Perhaps the moaning twat should look a bit closer to home.

He's going to do something else. The elbow was mad.
