But agree, think the time might be right to sell, if viable, as much as we all love Big Joe. Kees Smit and a more, preferably defensively minded (for me), established midfielder coming the other way. HaydnNUFC
I don’t think any club will pay him the wages that he’s on here tbh. That contract he was given whilst injured in mid 2024 instead of moving him on was a mistake from a squad progression/evolution perspective.

Geogaddi
Say what you want about how poor he has been this season but he certainly wouldn't have been strolling about like the rest of the cunts on Sunday and would have given us a bit of bite . Astroblack
Joe’s got a bit of a mythical presence about him. Players are scared of him in the tunnel. He’s kind of like Rice for Arsenal, not exactly the best technically but a massive character and someone you’d want on the pitch if 100% fit as he wants to win. Pops up when you least expect, unreal technique one moment(Forest goal) then overplaying and forcing the next. But still, I take the good with the bad as I know he’ll give his all and go down fighting. He’s a big game player, too. Surprised he was on the bench Sunday (unless it was a fitness issue), it’s exactly his type of game.

It won’t make sense but I think Rice is good technically when he’s running 100 miles an hour, not thinking and just in the heat of the battle. But when he runs back and picks the ball up off of the back four, he won’t know what to do with it, pass sideways and drift forward. He’ll try, though. He will drop deep and attempt to be that player but it looks awkward. Same as Joe, he’s not a midfielder but he’ll give his all and create a moment or two that can change a game. Based on that alone, I’d have him in my starting 11 most games. Low blocks I give the nod to Miley. Edited December 17, 2025 by Astroblack

There’s definitely games where Joelinton works in midfield - when we know we’ll be on the backfoot against powerful opposition. He’s almost designed to play in midfield vs Arsenal. But he’s a great example of the failure to evolve - at this point, we should be taking the game to at least 75% of the division, and Joelinton is really poor at that from midfield. He really should’ve been cashed in on some time ago - but as per, we’ve left it far too late to maximise selling potential.

I agree about how late to cash out i guess financially he was signed so long ago his cost on the books should be relatively low?

He’s pretty much fully amortised at this point, especially with the new contract last year - it would almost all be ‘book profit’ (though not necessarily actual profit). With PSR selling well is as important as buying well - and we have been shite sellers, always waiting a bit too long.

I wish we could allow players who "deserve it" especially older players to go on a free and get their last pay day or big Joe might want to go back to Brazil who couldn't afford a large transfer fee. Ultimately your right the sweet spot can be hard to hit especially unlike some of the other Ashley dregs continue to contribute and a natural successor isnt already here. The club need to do better in that regard 30 isnt old but injuries particularly niggly ones seem to mount up for him remember the amount of sports tape he was wearing at points last year. I guess you have to have a willing buyer first and need money to buy the replacement. How much would he demand now if not helped by the Saudi Market? 20m? 30m? Less? oldtype
I think he just needs periodic rest given his age and play style, he can still be very good when called upon judiciously.

The second yellow was because someone lost the ball in a daft position leaving us wide open, then he had to make a professional foul to save the situation. He was our best midfielder on the night. Not sure what that says about our other two superstars, but there we go.
