Allan Saint-Maximin (now playing for Fenerbahce, on loan from Al-Ahli)

Tbf, when he picks the ball up, he's usually looking to get a shot off at the end of his run anyway. He's not really looking to put anyone else in unless he gets blocked off completely.

I can't stand stats like that, not least because they often backfire and hint at the opposite of what they're trying to prove.

eg high up in terms of carries to shot involvements paired with low assists and goals suggests towards a player having no end product.

The more I think about how we play i.e. high press and highly organised positioning, the less I think that maxi fits our model.

He just doesn´t seem to have it in him to press, tackle or at least block the passing angles. At the moment he is a luxury at the expense of the other ten on the pitch.

Love him when he is attacking with the ball at feet

Hate him when the opposition right back or winger has the ball and he is STROLLING towards them

Imagine selling ASM with Almiron, Murphy and Fraser as back up. It would be insanity.

Would be but if it meant Barnes coming i'd be for it. Plus a purchase of a right winger also.

I’ve definitely noticed him tracking back a lot more and attempting tackles near our penalty box more than ever this preseason.

Not that he’s effective at it but he’s def trying

I would have thought the only reason to sell ASM would be to bring in a really high quality wide man who would fit the system better, presumably the likes of Gordon or Harrison.

BIG NO. And no.

There's not an argument to have Gordon over ASM

Well he's supposedly one of our targets, as is Harrison, so it appears there is an argument.

I think both ASM and Wilson limit our transfer strategy to a certain extent, not that it's their fault or there's anything we can do.

Both have to play, both have question marks over them, both probably need to be upgraded in the medium term.

I don’t know if it’s the Ashley-era or what but the season starts in a week and there’s always someone suggesting we sell our best winger. Would rather just sign one.

I'd love for him to be replaced on the pitch, but I certainly wouldn't advocate selling him. We need a squad.

The minute we get a better attacking kid or another top winger I think we’ll see a far better version of maxi. He doesn’t strike me as a guy who goes into full maxi mode in preseason

I’d sell if it meant we were signing Harrison and Barnes

I still get the feeling we will sell him

All of the players we are linked with seem to play on the left

Personally I would like to see him stay and get to play with better players but have a nagging feeling he isn’t a (Howe) player

We won't sell him.
