Because he blatantly didn’t bother his arse to track back. He also tackled hardly ever. Im not going to blow smoke up the blokes arse. He’s a lazy kunt I edit to add that I never mentioned this season. Yes he has changed under Howe. But he has had no choice but change. I stand by the fact he is double bone idle and skin wouldn’t graft to the bloke when he first got here. His first few years involved him almost single handedly (yeah, yeah, I know, team game and all that) keeping us up and also being the only thing that was remotely exciting I swear, some people just hate excitement in football I don't understand it, never have and never will but such people have always existed, on the receiving end we've had Ginola, Robert, Ben Arfa and now ASM joins that list
Super Duper Branko Strupar
Doesn't read like a goodbye to me. More of a reflection on the past year and a statement of intent for the next. I dont see us selling him, personally. We've got enough positions to fill this summer without having to replace Maxi. I hope we dont, too. He's got a huge part to play next year and we need him fit and hungry, he'll be fighting for that position with Gordon and Joelinton. There's no reason he cant start more games than anyone else in that position if he's getting it right and is fit. And the fact that his direct competition for that position can all start or fill in in other positions if form or injury dictate.
Guest
If he goes, I'd go all out for a big upgrade on the right-side. I'd be happy with Gordon, the Jo-duo and Isak as options on the left as long as we get a top class right winger to replace Almiron and Murphy. SUPERTOON
Think it would be a complete waste of Isak if he continues to start games on the left tbh.
KetsbaiaIsBald
He mentions he’s lost people this year. I imagine he’s in an emotional place. I don’t personally read it as a goodbye. I just think he’s feeling the need to get stuff off his chest.
Decky
We need to keep him, we need a squad for next year with Europe and it'd be foolish to lose someone of ASM's talent. It would also kill me if we sold him to another PL team and he tore it up with them.

I also think he would do better with a more balanced LB behind him. Having Dan Burn (who i love btw) behind him definitely put a bigger emphasis on him tracking back and covering for a 6'7 LB who is basically a CB. It would be a shame if he leaves. I genuinely think he would be incredible next season in the CL. Also for the money, which im guessing would be 30-40m..i doubt we could replace him with someone who offers what he does. Maybe Moussa Diaby is the only one we could get for that price but its literally a like for like. I'd prefer to keep ASM.
Thumbheed
He single handedly saved us from relegation for 2 years straight and for that alone deserves a run out with us in the CL. Edited June 5, 2023 by Thumbheed
TheInfiniteOdyssey
Would be very disappointed if we sold him to be honest. He has a unique skillset that isn’t found anywhere else in the team. We need players like him to unlock more ‘stubborn’ sides.
AyeDubbleYoo
I’d like to think his injury issues can be sorted over the summer and he’ll come back in top form. He creates loads of chances and would have loads of assists if anyone in our midfield could finish. Seems a bad time to sell with the CL games coming up. That said, I’ve never understood why he can’t stay fit and plays bandaged up like a mummy, so there’s a fair chance he’ll never really succeed for us. Who knows basically
BoSelecta
If Kai fucking Havertz is worth £70m Maxi has to be worth more than £25m or even £35m being banded around!? Personally I hope he stays and has a fantastic season next year.

TheInfiniteOdyssey
I think I’d rather undervalue him and let him go abroad, than see him play for another Premier League team.
Geogaddi
We paid 40 million for Gordon , no way should we be selling Maxi for less than that .

timeEd32
Semi-interesting that his #1 player comp on fbref is Rayan Cherki, who we've been linked with.
Dokko
Imagine spunking £45m on Gordon and selling Maxi for £25m. Would break my heart.
Geordie Boyo
If there’s any truth in him going then we must have a replacement in mind. The question is who, because Gordon isn’t anywhere near ready. I know there’s questions over maxi’s fitness and tracking back at times, but he’s a huge player for us. I think we’ve only had ferran torres linked with us so far.
