1964
Our primary ethos is about the team and Maxi was not a true team player, brilliant on his day but was always the maverick

I liked Saint-Maximin, but I just have to trust that the club will be smart and invest in players that longer term fit the way we want to play and when we do have to sell again we're not giving players away for free to get them off the books. For Fraser we actively targeted him due to his contract situation, at the time it would seem like a good deal due to the lack of a transfer fee so gave him a 5 year contract, but obviously it hasn't worked out. It was the same for Hendrick, a four year deal and free transfer, being hailed as great business with him being an experienced international by the manager. In all honesty, the window of 2020/21, Wilson aside, was shocking. We had enough funds to make a 'blow out' signing and the rest were attempted bargains under that management which at this stage has left us vulnerable because we've got dead wood. who hailed Hendrick as great business? Thumbheed
Think what saddens me the most about ASM going is it kind of signals the end of maverick type footballers at our club.

At the time the club just gaslit the fans into thinking this was a brilliant piece of business or bargain. We're always desperate for signings so you can make it seem attractive. It was a really underwhelming window and we're paying for that now. Ironically same window Lewis came in and he's just went out on loan.
rebelrouser
That really seems like a bargain. Would love to get someone in of that quality for that price. Surprised no French clubs moved in. Have to admit, I really don't understand the Gordon/Barnes/Saint-Maximin business, but that's why i'm not a sporting director.

Because the French teams wouldn’t be able to give him the wages they are.

Guybrush
Still one of the greatest tweets Proper sad after reading his goodbye message. He's the kind of player that makes footy what it is.
Ste
Obviously played a huge part in this club surviving in the PL, and therefore a part in this club in 2023 competing in the Champions League. Gutted about where he has gone, he’ll make great money but a man of his talent should be competing in far better leagues. Fuck FFP.
clintdempsey
Gutted when I understood he’d be moved on. Even more gutted after that tweet (and that joke of a transfer sum). ASM is the kind of player that made me fall in love with football and it feels awful that he won’t be here for the good times. He seemed a genuine bloke who understood us as a club and supporters. A gem. Fucking FFP. Edited July 29, 2023 by clintdempsey
Memphis
I completely understand why he is being sold and yet I do hate to lose a true *character*. They are rarer and rarer in these days of milquetoast footballers, he was different, he was a brilliant guy off the pitch and truly seemed to fall in love with the club, the fans, and the area. There is always more to the story and I'm sure it wasn't all perfect in the changing room, but from a fan's perspective, what a beautiful footballer and there's no doubt he will be missed. Lots of players have left clubs they've been at for decades and haven't put together a goodbye like his. Special guy.
