Is everyone just happy to forget the awful coverage and total weakness from the football journos during the Ashley era?

 

That we were failed by so many journos, near and far, is never far from my mind tbh and I'm struggling to keep a straight face when you have articles like that one this morning in the Athletic talking about Howe's revolutionary changes, how bad the squad was he inherited (in terms of morale, condition, disunity etc) and yet Caulkin, Waugh et al went out of their ways not to criticise Bruce.

 

It's great we've fundamentally changed as a club. Wonderful. I'm still wandering around in a daze at the whole thing. It's like a dream.

 

Do these bunch of cretins deserve the indirect benefits? Of more readership? Of more positive engaged fan interactions? Of more appetite for their products when very very few of them can look themselves in the mirror given their conduct during the Ashley era? Not for me.

 

Edwards will always be a cunt. Obviously. But it's the so called local journos who, for me, majorly bottled any real negative coverage of Ashley for fear of expulsion that shouldn't be able to enjoy what we are now. And there's plenty of them.

 

I'm surprised how many people seemingly don't care about it. I wish I didn't TBH but it does majorly fuck me off that their role in representing fan opinion/sentiment was so weak/passive it was verging on complicit.

 

I could add the NUFC Trust to this argument too and seeing that prick Hurst sat a few rows from the owners also resulted in a little sick in my mouth but that's a different story, a different moan for a different time/thread.

I see where you're coming from but personally I think it's best to just leave it all in the past and enjoy the times we have. There are so many parties who facilitated Ashley's time at the club; media, pundits, NUFC Trust and a large proportion of the fan base itself. I'm just pleased the Ashley era is over and happy to move on.

Just subscribed the The Athletic, they've been excellent and I can only imagine the articles on the horizon for a new beginning for the club. Exciting times ahead! I require in-depth in-the-know rumours and insider waffle from now on, I'm just going to eat it all up.

Odd stuff - I really can't stand the narrative about Liverpool's money and them not being one of the richest clubs in the world. They've spent a boat load of money, however, they've had more hits than misses and their hits are genuinely top quality / world class. No need to try and make them sound any better like they are some poor club punching above their weight. Call it like it is - they've spent money, and its been spent wisely and they've built a brilliant squad under a brilliant manager.

Compared to City and Chelsea they are punching above their weight and like Man Utd under Fergie all their success is club driven, no money from outsiders or some state funding, it’s all in house and that has to be respected, commended and applauded. They have spent a lot of money of course, but it’s club money, driven by fans who buy all kinds of merchandise, by revenues the club generate as a global brand in terms of commercialisation, TV money, sponsorships and corporate deals. They are every inch the model template for any big club looking to succeed in a sustainable in house driven way, away from sugar daddies or state sponsored ownership.
