Froggy
Rooney was good but not great imo. Bit like Beckham, the media make them out to be better than they are. It's actually incredible that you can be the record scorer for your club and country and people will still underrate you. Rooney was great. It depends how you define great. Messi and Ronaldo are great, Brazil Ronaldo and Zidane were great, Rooney isn't in that category. They're the four greatest players of all time though. No they aren't. Throw Pele and Maradona in there and that is literally the 6 greatest players that ever lived. So no, Rooney isn't one of the greatest who ever lived, but he was undoubtedly great. He wasn't even a CF for us in the Ronaldo years.
ToonArmy1892
Maldini, Lahm, Xavi, Buffon..there's some more greats, Rooney isn't in that.

Conjo
So much bullshit in here. From 2004 - 2014 Rooney was world class. One of the best English players of all time.
Dr.Spaceman
I always wonder how good he really could have been had he had the approach of someone like James Milner.

Aye the fucking old biddies, getting knocked out and gatecrashing weddings really took it out of him.

Decky
What defines great? Rooney was one of the top forwards in Europe for a decade. Won absolutely everything with his club, on a personal level he became the record goalscorer for his club and country. Is that not great?

triggs
He was fat and finished at 28. That tends to happen when you start playing men's football regularly at

He was our top scorer 5 years ago. Was still consistent hitting 15-20 a year despite moving deeper and deeper.

A deep lying forward scoring 15 goals and assisting a bucket more? Fat and shite aye. The PL 100 club is on Sky now with Rooney. Ridiculous compilation. Guest neesy111
Rooney was a very very good player, but lacked consistency for me to be a true world class player.

Ridiculous compilation. 15-20 a season in all comps isn't very good for a so called great striker. No need to get defensive, only opinions.
Conjo
I thought it was established in the Almiron thread that goals and assists doesn't really matter when judging a players ability.

James
Shearer had a far better goal record over a far longer period.
