Can we not do the “everyone hates us/southern media” thing? It’s honestly the worst.

I am tickled by the accusation that journalists and human rights activists are just pretending to care about a brutal regime in order to disguise the genuine source of their loathing and disgust, a football team.

The thing is, even the journalists who think, quite rightly, that the onus should not be on Newcastle fans to police this sort of thing will quickly lose all sympathy for that position when they see the way some are going on.

Rory Smith, who was very even handed on SPM has already had a go at The Mag today for a ridiculous hit piece on Amnesty that they have since deleted.

Yes true but it was deleted because so many Newcastle fans had a go at the mag. A large amount of fans get it

Whatever happens with this takeover, I hope we don’t turn into the type supporting Man City. Just had a peruse through their forum and seeing people referring to Pep as the “bald fraud”

They obviously have Steve Coppell and Joe Royle amnesia

Our fanbase will certainly change. I'm personally looking forward to the days of fans of individual superstar players pretending to support us again, like GhoeberX with his weird Kluivert obsession.

Yes! That ghoeberx was incredible

I think everyone's being a bit unfair to them. This is the real reason for their interest in sports - NOT sportwashing! But no, that isn't "sexy" enough news  :huff:

HRH Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Faisal.

"We want to get people more engaged in sport," he said. "In 2015 just 13% of Saudis took part in sports for half an hour or more each week; we want that to be 40% by 2030. This is all part of a programme designed to get people more active."

It was on Twitter he mentioned the piece but yeah it's worth a listen.

Just out of curiosity, why would Bein write to the other clubs. They have no say in this do they?

Politics. They are a Qatar broadcaster. Qatar and Saudi are pretty much at war, at least diplomatically.

This is all part of that.

while this is true it is also true someone in Saudi is 100% just stealing and rebroadcasting Beins stuff which is also probably part of the whole political mess ongoing but whether there is anyone part of the royal family or government involved in beoutq :dontknow: but its a reasonable concern for Bein to raise as they are paying a lot of money for these tv rights and it is being blatantly stolen.

It’s coming from all sides isn’t it, can we just sign off on this sale and deal with the crap afterwards

Did they do the same for Man City?

Did they object to bein sport buying the tv rights?

f*** me, FIFA has an ethics branch, and without a hint of irony releases statements like that.

Pretty sure that's an independent body, not associated with FIFA. Just keeps an eye on them and raises anything they see as an ethical issue.

Sterling job so far

 indeed

Yes. But this is just part of the bigger picture. Which is a stand-off between Saudi and Qatar.

The stealing of Qatari tv by Saudi is probably an economic attack component as part of that conflict.

Yes, and it's in the PL's interest to stop this as it devalues rights deals.

No sides taken, but I believe the illegal Bein came as a result of Bein stopping broadcast in the UAE and Saudi in response to their border blockade. They reinstated it in the UAE but not in Saudi. As they had he exclusive rights to the Middle East distribution there were no other sources.

Agreed, but to stop this deal, they will need definitive proof that the new owners are directly involved with the illegal broadcasting. If they don't and still knock it back they are then going to be facing a massive lawsuit.

That's definitely true, and is being glossed over by many.

From a pragmatic point of view, surely the PL has a better chance of having Saudi piracy cracked down on if they have the Saudi government inside the tent, instead of being outside and pissing beIN off?

It won't block the deal, but the PL can ask about the piracy stuff and they'll have a lot more information about where it's coming from than some posters on an internet forum using news articles.

Yeah agreed they will and I'm quite sure the new owners will be well prepared for any questions also.
