Just wish everything that has happened comes out in open, but can't see legal stuff forcing a takeover through in an acceptable amount of time.

There has been nothing to suggest they’re going for arbitration.

The PL claimed they were offered it during the process IIRC.

Yea ?

I meant since the statement yesterday. There’s no info to suggest the parties are going to pursue arbitration. There’s hints to suggest Ashley will seek damages but that’s it.

I don’t trust anything Edwards says.

He’s been proven to have no inside information in regards to the takeover, and has also admitted and proven to be a WUM.

Exactly, his replies should just be littered with Henry mauriss tbh.

I'm not even arsed if he was proven correct in long run, he is a massive bellend and should be treat as such.

He should just be blocked - the reason he sprouts his shit is because he has a platform to do so.

If people blocked/unfollowed him, he’d be a crap journalist reaching out to nobody - rather than a crap journalist reaching out and getting hundreds of bites.

Is this really as simple as keeping BeIN happy? Is that their reason for stopping this at the heart of it. Can it even cost them if they’re tied into a deal? I really don’t want it jump on the whole corruption thing without evidence but this does feel like a different set of rules has been applied to this and I realty don’t get why.

Long and short is someone is lying somewhere. Unfortunately have to think it's the club given their proven legal history of 'intentionally and deliberately misleading fans'.

PL are just as guilty but truth probably lies somewhere in between their conflicting statements.

Sounds like submitting a report to answer a specific question and the examiner changing it slightly so even though it's been answered it's not been answered in a way to get the marks

I don't see how this can be true, a statement liken this could possibly be drawing a line under it  The club and its owners do not accept that Premier League chief executive Richard Masters and the Premier League have acted appropriately in relation to this matter and will be considering all relevant options available to them.

I honestly don’t get the positivity and the almost celebrating Like it’s a good thing from some on here

Even up until yesterday they were expecting a 'Yes'. I just don't get that at all. What are they basing that on? Is Manorpark Amanda Staveley?

the talks that have been ongoing presumably?  it's been a constant theme though hasn't it, the buyers saying they're getting positive noises only for it to fall apart...as someone just said there are lies being told somewhere, and i know where my money is

I don’t understand the positivity. The talking behind the scenes has ended in failure.

Hopefully something comes of the league action but essentially all the talking has to official rejection

Yea I’m a bit baffled by this. That’s how I see it too.

You can't "sue" until the bid is first rejected.

You can't "appeal" until there is something to appeal against.

That is why everyone (well, some of us) are so positive now, even a little bit more positive than we always have been.

If you don't get accepted when it clearly (Chelsea/Man City-wise) should be, then a clear rejection is the next best thing.

That Club Statement by Ashley leaves absolutely NO room for doubt, none whatsoever.

He wouldn't have said any of that if he wasn't very, very certain of his ground, and by that I mean his 'legal' ground.

Off we go !!

It really is quite absurd this whole O&D test.  The reason it was brought in was to protect the club from new owners that couldn't support it financially or from criminal elements.  Now it seems to have evolved into some else entirely.

You have a willing buyer, a willing seller and a fan base that is 95% behind the takeover and yet the O&D test is being used to stop the sale.  Seriously what the f*** is going on as its clearly a restriction of trade.

I can actually understand why some people have expressed opposition to being owned by sovereign states or foreign oligarchs, and if the PL had stopped that happening with Man City and Chelsea, we would always have been in contention for a top 6 spot anyway as long as we were run remotely competently. But once you have opened the Pandora's box, how the fuck is it fair to stop NUFC from claiming a place at the table? You can't simply change the rules because you've decided, actually we are happy with a bit of state ownership, but let's leave it with Man City, enough's enough.

Because they and their legal teams felt they have proven that PIF and KSA were separate entities.

PL disagree and have therefore rejected it. The club believe the PL have rejected it because they’ve not acted appropriately and therefore the most suitable next step is to appeal and have it independently reviewed.

The appeal system is fairly quick, I believe.

I think it’s definitely over, I don’t think PIF will be back. The club might win any court case but I think Ashley would get some compo at best.

PL are skint at the moment aren't they? They could just tell PIF to come back and they'll approve it to avoid going to court.

guess it's just confirmation that ashley actively wants out and seems willing to push things to be able to get it done

And confirmation that PIF were never really out, and they now have a decision that can be appealed. It seems probable that the PL board would prefer to be seen to resist the takeover and for it to be potentially granted by a tribunal on appeal so they can distance themselves from the decision.

But, ultimately, it's a bit gutting to know that we could well have been celebrating the successful takeover yesterday.

I imagine purely because they believe the documentation they’ve provided should be enough. Clearly it wasn’t.

Appreciate the replies.

I am just so bloody confused. From the outside, it seems that PL have not given out anything to make the people in the deal feel very positive about the outcome.

At the end Amanda Staveley even commented that the PL made it very difficult (or words to that affect). That however contradicts what they were supposedly told earlier on on the quiet by the PL.

It feels like there's contradictions at every turn so who knows what the real truth is.

My faintest but best hope is that this is all some amazing plot to absolve the PL from any repercussions from the objectors, when it finally goes through.

The only thing that surprises me in all of this is that it’s taken this long.

I think Ashley has two nuclear scenarios in play here:

1. He asks for £350m compensation. This would basically mean that if he won all of the other PL clubs would each have to forego £17.5m taken from future TV income. Would 10 other clubs balk at potentially losing this sum of money? Almost certainly. They would make sure the case got dropped.

2. He manages to get the courts to agree to a more far reaching court case which looks into corruption, hypocrisy in terms of the owner structure at a number of other clubs etc. If the courts agree to these terms of reference the PL would again have to settle with Ashley to keep things quiet and that means allowing the takeover.

Didn't he go down a similar route with scenario 2, where Dave Whelan and a few other sports suppliers were fixing the prices for football shirts.

I’m fairly confident Edwards’ source is a PL one.

He was first to break the news about the impasse, has been incredibly negative all the way through about it and is now claiming the deal is still off and nothing has happened.

Well, we have never been seen in the same room together . . .
