Dokko
Really short sighted of the PL if they accept this. The league would survive without the top 6, easily. A new guard will form and thryll become the big clubs. Thryll grt the exposure and champions league places and their fan bases will increase in the place of top 6 scum. Citeh have money but no fans, they were a nothing club until money came along, same with Chelsea. Tottenham will always be bridesmaid and arsenals best days are behind them. Liverpool have won the PL once in 30 years and manure, how long since they won it? Right collection of powerhouses. Leicester really upset them like, Liverpool especially. Stifler
Unfortunately the dangling carrot of helping the efl clubs will be to big for some to refuse One EFL club chairman has already been on SSN saying he’s backing it and most lower league clubs will. Gary Neville has said he’s backing it, so that’s Salford behind it. Aye, it’ll find its way thru. Our game has gone As long as 11 EPL teams stay strong then it doesn’t really matter about what the ELF think. Government is totally against it also Apparently and surprisingly, West Ham are supposed to be against it and they are included in the top 9.

Yorkie
I wonder, on which side of the fence Sky Sports will sit, when it comes to a proposal to give the elite clubs more power? Thank goodness for the diversity among their big ticket pundits! I'm sure that particular organisation won't fan the flames of elitism one bit. Of course the Football League needs a bailout. It's literally lost two of its clubs in the last few months. That isn't an argument to support giving six other football clubs unbending power, ultimately bolting the door on the concept of a level playing field across the 92. It's basically blackmail. wormy
work with the other 11 clubs = accept this or you're the bad guys for not voting for EFL clubs getting money to survive. Bent fucks. Let's see them offer it up while not making a total power grab.

Sima
It would be interesting to see which EFL clubs are in favour of it. I can imagine there will be a lot of League One/League Two clubs in there as they're getting money for nothing with them having no realistic chance of reaching the Premier League. But those teams that have a decent chunk of PL seasons under their belt voting for it when it could mean they never reach the levels they've been at in the last 30 years? Can't see there being many in favour.
Guest
No parachute payments will make the ‘product’ awful. If teams are defensive against the big clubs now, imagine what the teams at the bottom will be like knowing there’s little chance of coming back, or being financially fucked, if they go down. Sorry if already covered but if one of them drops out of the PL does another 'long-serving' club step in for that 9th place vote? Or does the power reduce to eight? Even if/when that relegated club returns to the PL they don't regain that power? So say West Ham, Southampton and Everton all have a dodgy period over the next decade or so and drop out of the league, the 'big six' then get to decide everything entirely unopposed? LFEE
The 9th place vote is irrelevant when they just need 6/9 to make a decision and the 6 will be in full agreement on everything.

Stifler
Imagine if the 5 of the top 6 and Everton suddenly decided that Liverpool can’t have a vote and voted them out. Dokko
It's a British thing to piss and moan about it, it's very American to do something about it. It's a very clever plan to seize power, sure emperor palpatine has a hand in this new senate.
ponsaelius
Most American owners are flabbergasted by the concept that they can buy a club and the revenues are dependent on immediate and regular high performance to qualify for the Europe - while a particularly bad season could see them relegated and ejected entirely from the gravytrain. There is no security or stability in European sport which is terrible for an investor from a background of US sport. In the US if you buy/set up a franchise that's you secure in the league for as long as you want. Stability for a business model and no risk. No need to finish high and qualify for continental competitions every year. Indeed you can throw a season altogether to get a better draft pick to build for a long-term team/brand. This is quite clearly a move driven in a significant part by American ownership pushing for a model which allows more power for big clubs and ensures stability. This solidifies their investment. It's not the only reason but the gradual takeover by US capitalists is clearly a significant part of this shift.
