Can see PIF giving them money no team in Europe would for the likes of Digne Tielemans, Torres, Watkins etc. btw.

Don't think they will honestly, it seems like they aren't even sponsoring out shirt.

I am being facetious. If Villa’s owners continue to invest, dedicated to their success, Villa will find ways to be fine and bounce back if needed.

A more likely reality is Emery gives them sustained success at a higher level.

Why would we agree a deal with a Saudi company for half the price? If anything it should be more money and PIF should be capable of making it happen fairly easily.

It seems like a Saudi/PIF linked company isn't in for it at all which is a massive red flag about the commitment to this.

If we take half of what we were getting from Sela that's bad enough but we are also self benchmarking as well so if they become interested again in a years time how can we possible segue our market value is higher than the old Sela deal.

Bunch of 🤡

If it's true then we genuinely do have a bunch of clowns running the club. A half price Sela deal for a season is a pile of shit, surely we could find a company willing to pay more than half for a year? Or just give it to a charity for a year rather than some Saudi company at cut price with the money they have.

From the sounds of it, we can't even find someone to give us half of what Sela were giving us.

Disastrous stuff.

I’m perfectly fine with it not being a PIF-related company, but it all adds to the question marks over our gobshite-in-chief CEO, who has spent the best part of a year talking big but delivering little

I’d love for it to be a real company. If we can’t get any company in the world to give us £20m+ that’s pretty sad.

Yep - it’s pretty pathetic in all honesty.  The commercial side of the club post-takeover has been really unimpressive (cue folks telling me what % it’s gone up by, as if Ashley hadn’t compressed it to a ridiculous degree).

I don't really care who sponsors us but our flagship deal has to be increasing if we have any hope of competing mind. It's all very bizarre as I thought the deal with knox was very cleverly done.

I've got no issue with the CEO personally he just spouted what has been the party like since takeover. Big question marks for those in Riyadh though as at this moment in time it's looking like all talk as a poster who's name I forgot said it would be.

Taken over by the world's richest idiots, typical nufc.

To add on and apologies, I know people absolutely hate this stuff but unfortunately for us this is what actually matters. This is what will define our position in the game and it always has. Fully engaged owners with the funds to hack it up? Sky is truly the limit. Disinterested owners who have all the money in the world? Enjoy that glass ceiling.

Villa’s biggest issue is that it’s a super old squad and very few of their Emery era transfers have been major successes.

7 of the 11 starters in the Europa league final were there before Emery - which is damning.  Considering Emery has had European pull and good wages for nearly all of his transfer windows.

It might also be an Emery thing too. Of the 4 Emery era signings that started the final they are aged:

29

31

29

23

It’s not an Howe situation of inheriting an old squad.  Emery has been allowed to sign older players and insists on playing them and it’s not sustainable. Emery inherited a class young spine and has just let it age. They do have younger options but he’s choosing to start a 31yo loanee CB in Lindelof over 24 yo Onana (no idea of the story there) and starts 30 something Digne over Maatsen.

Emery might leave Vila checkmated when he runs to Real if they allow it to continue.  Given their position allowing Emery to sign Abraham for £18m is insane.  They need a level headed Duran.  I can really see a checkmate situation because I’ve seen no signs of it ending.  They replaced 24 yo Guessand with 28yo Abraham.  Don’t give Elliott a chance and preferred another loanee they would never sign permanently. As it stands they only have 1 £50m+ valued player - purely down to age and not developing younger players.

Big summer for them.  They need to sign players 21-25 and play them.

We really had a great thing going with Ashworth. He only signed 1 outfield player 25 and over I believe. Maybe 2?

Emery has done a brilliant job no doubt. But Villa have invested a lot of money in his time and the squad profile is very old.

Ive been very complimentary of Villa and Emery but I have a doomsday scenario for them. They continue as they have been - signing older players, high quality loans and compete well on all fronts. But because teams like Bournemouth and Sunderland are in Europe, new manager City, Slot etc. PL doesn’t get 5th CL place. Stronger seasons from Alonso’s Chelsea, DeZerbi’s Spurs and us without Europe mean Villa do well, maybe finish 5th but don’t qualify for the CL. Emery leaves to replace Jose at Madrid - maybe the Spain NT job.   Villa are left with an old squad with no wingers, low market value so they return to midtable the next season, lose twice to newly promoted Birmingham City who miraculously qualify for Europe.

- end novel.

Spot on this, great post.

I was surprised to learn his big three signings at Villa have been Onana, Maatsen, and Diaby.

Well if what was said is right and they have a squad that is aging out, then you are right, they will hit a wall. They already yet again need to sell to buy, and we have seen ourselves how you are not allowed to have a summer where you change out your entire squad.

I guess we’ll wait and see.

I mean in all fairness to him, he has brought in a sponsor for the training ground which everyone was calling for.

It was only a couple of weeks ago people were happy at the rumour of the sponsor being Guinness. It could very well be that our sponsorship deal is awaiting Premier League approval, and we all know how fast they like to act with us. I think even Chelsea have had bother with them in recent years with them not being happy with proposed deals to both Air Riyadh, and Paramount both getting knocked on the head.

Understand this was being touted at c. half the price of the existing Sela deal, on a one year interim basis, as recent as a few weeks ago. Would be a surprise at this stage if it’s anything but a backwards step commercially.

Still selling the rights as of a few weeks ago as per @GeordieT

The desperation for negativity is off the scale now, Nut.

Almost every thread ends up this way.

How do you know this

He doesn’t, nobody does, but that’s what this place is these days.

I’ve been posting on here for over 20 years, it’s the worst it’s ever been for stuff like this.

Jump to (negative) conclusions, everyone is rubbish and full of shit, we should have always recruited someone different (usually foreign) in every position (on and off the pitch).

It’s relentless and boring.

But that’s all platforms, x is the same. Not sure if it’s all clubs or not though.

(this isn’t a dig at the original

poster by the way, just a general point).
