But I do think the growth of the Saudi league will benefit those clubs with aging stars on huge wages and long contracts. I'd rather they (like Chelsea) suffered for their decisions, but this is now somewhere else to offload them, and therefore doesn't help clubs who try to do things in the right way. Also think it adds it adds to the massive wage inflation in the game. It's when they start picking up players in their prime on multiple times the wages anyone else can offer that it starts to be a major problem. US investors are becoming more and more common in the Premier League, so the conflicts of interest (or at least the perceived conflicts) are likely to grow. The PL will be fully aware of this and no doubt have conflict procedures in place to manage those relationships. PIF are trying to grow the brand of their domestic league and are snapping up any willing takers. Chelsea have a lot of household names on the books they want rid of, it'll be as simple as that. The fact that the ESL came about only a few months later and he spoke up about that has went on and changed his reputation from being someone who was happy to give all the power in football to the top clubs, as well and virtually all of the future money, to being an icon standing up for football. They learned a valuable lesson early. Every thing just seems so tight. The Isak and Tonali - our 2 ‘big’ signings so far just caught everyone off guard.
