Is that the same Barclays who was involved in the libor scandal? So fair criticism of Staveley is her dealings with Barclays? Bizarre thing to bring up, only fair criticism is PSR but we have no idea if she was responsible and if she was who should she have not bought or sold?

Once again, wasn't referencing her dealings with us which appear to be beyond reproach.

Just saying that people who are totally genuine don't get sucked in to law disputes with banks. Show me a clean billionaire, and I'll show you a liar. Christ we had the best example going with Ashley....no one gets that rich without screwing someone down the line

Are my eyes deceiving me or is that PIF signage on the ad boards?

Hope we’re getting paid for that.

Came to post about that - don't remember seeing that before.

Noticed it as well, hope we’re getting paid as every little helps. More importantly hopefully it’s a sign from PIF they’re going to step out from the background and prioritise us and it’s a  statement to the league.

I need to get a life I know but I decided to put together a spreadsheet estimating our current squad amortisation costs if it's of interest to anyone but me:

That leaves out a few important factors, that other players included in our amortisation have become fully amortised in that time (Almiron, Joelinton in particular), that when new contracts are signed the amortisation is spread over the length of the new contract (up to 5 years) so, when contracts are extended it will usually significantly reduce amortisation cost for that player, and that when players are sold or released any profit/loss on their remaining amortisation goes straight into the accounts in full.

So in 21/22 our main amortisation costs were actually Trippier, Burn, Bruno, Joelinton, ASM, Wilson, Lewis, Willock, Gayle, Ritchie, Murphy and Dubravka all of which bar Trippier, Burn, Bruno are now effectively off the books and Bruno's yearly amortisation cost would have been roughly halved when he signed his new contract (although obviously his increased wags, signing on fees etc. will probably make up for that).

They're not all off the books, though they will have been reduced significantly.  Willock will be about 5m per season, Joelinton will be around 2m per season, and BDB just shy of 3m.  Hardly breaks the bank, but it never gets to zero until the player leaves.

edit: sorry JB, just saw your list after I posted.  Joelinton will still have around 2m to be added, though.  Amortisation for NUFC is running at close to 100m last I checked.

So earlier Benitez-era transfers (Schar, Dubravka, Murphy, Lascelles) have already amortized down to zero, is that right? Or do they still have some tiny amount left to amortize due to various contract extensions over the years?

No, it never reaches zero - even Lascelles will still have a small amount of amortised book value.  It will be so small as to basically be worthless, but it will still have a value.

So theoretically £5.8m of the annual amortisation cost will roll off with the contract expirations of Lewis and Wilson and Miggy’s exit. I see us keeping Krafu for another year so that would stay but reduce a touch. Lascelles and Dubs are missing but they will be absolutely trivial given fee and length of time they’ve been here.

Targett, Willock and Barnes are £14.8m in that and if we can get decent-ish money back for the latter two we could book some profit and clear space for incomings. However, we’ll have to be careful to balance this with a potential European campaign and the need for bodies - all depends on whether we’ve got some youngsters who can start to step up.

Let's not bother with subs. Just have a squad of 11 players and hope for the best.

They’ll be the first people to complain about squad depth if someone gets injured.

Missed Joelinton, I've added him in now.

Our latest published accounts from 2023 have it at £89m. The accounts have a breakdown of the costs per year:

 amor.png.4f24d4269c3866c3649e0b1a3e61325a.png

Since then we've signed:

Tonali - £12m (amortisation per year)

Barnes - £7.6m

Livramento - £6.2m

Vlachodimos - £4m

Hall - £5.6m

Osula - £3m

Total 38.4m

Contract renewals that have reduced yearly amortisation:

Bruno - 7.8 to 4.4 = -3.4m

Burn - 5.2 to 2.2 = -3m

Gordon 12.9 to 4.7 = -8.2m

Total  -£14.6m

edit, I forgot to add sales since our last published accounts:

ASM -£3.3m

Minteh -£1.2m

That works out at £90.7m for 2024/25 so my estimate is not far off.

Thank you for helping us mere mortals to understand

Don’t be silly you clearly need subs, but in this PSR world where not in a position to have a sub who barely plays as the 3rd valued highest yearly player.

Where at the limit of PSR and Mitchell is clearly on board that we need cheaper younger players.
