If it was to be him, I wonder why it hasn’t been done yet. Out of work, first linked months ago, maybe gardening leave? Eales not ready to leave yet?

Other candidates to go through before first choice decision made?

All sorts of potential contractual reasons why we could have agreed to this ages ago but couldn't announce it officially. He could have some kind of residual compensation from his prior deal that he can't claim if he officially takes another job, for example. Executive compensation deals are super weird and complex.

Piece in the athletic about Suds.

Gopaladesikan’s appointment was led by Paul Mitchell, the sporting director who left in May, having been in position for less than a year. His intention had been to build up a football department that bore a resemblance to Liverpool’s model with Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards.

Said article in the Athletic. I’d like more James Horncastle pieces on Newcastle, please.

Any chance these incoming executives will come in time to help save this window?

Not expecting their influence on who we sign but the team left are currently demonstrating an inability to get the job done probably because its not meant to be their job.

Isn't it eales job to find a replacement for himself?

He's had over 10 month to do just that.

No I don't think so, the club brought in head hunters to do it. I'm sure they'll present candidates directly to the board.

Also think Eales deserves a bit of a pass on this shambles. Being diagnosed with blood cancer is abut as scary news as it's possible to get I'd imagine. Can 100% forgive him for not being as focused (who on earth could be?) and I'm surprised he didn't leave earlier, his only priority should have been his own health.

That said the transition from Eales to his replacement has been shocking too. It's a key position in the club and there's been virtual radio silence about it all, I'm not after specific details about Eales, especially when it's health related, but some kind of outline and timeframe for getting the replacement sorted would have been canny. Sadly not :hmm:

Casually included at the bottom of Martin Hardy's Isak/Sesko article (which contains zero new info on them) is:

"Newcastle are close to announcing the appointment of David Hopkinson as chief executive and Ross Wilson as sporting director."

Good post. With it leading the appointment of Mitchell apparently you can understand some stick, but with what he will likely be going through you'd have to think his head won't be in it 100% and ultimately the club should be supporting him by focusing attention on a replacement. With the lack of information you could think that for health reasons by now he has actually relinquished his role despite announcing this almost 12 months ago the club should be doing better. I know they said short term in the statement back in September, but is a year short term in football?
