I’m not sure what everybody was expecting. He’s a CEO, not an entertainer.

 this place loves a good whinge wether it’s a lack of executive leadership or moaning about how corporate our new CEO’s interview comes off.

That guy is the most North American CEO possible like.

That video was a load of waffle mind, with not a whole lot of substance, not that you expect anything from these things, but he seems like he's excited by the role, so that's good.

You rather he sound like The Ibiza Final Boss? [emoji38]

Would be great if we didn't hear from him again and he just goes and does the stuff we need him to do in the background.

This and he most likely will, seems to be his character.

Reaction is a bit weird mind, actively listening to the people around him is what a leader should be doing.

I'm sure he did his homework during the process but for things like this you will do a lot of your learning on the job. Seems a natural thing to me.

He's a Geordie right? So in an ideal world, you'd probably want a really qualified Geordie running the club, so yes in answer to your question

No, it’s pathetic that he wasn’t walking around the stadium, training ground and academy meeting people before he even started his job…..

He did say he’d been having zoom calls with staff before starting mind.

I’m sure he’s done plenty, will have no doubt been arranging moving his family here etc too. Unsure why anyone could criticise him for saying he is going to be a lot of listening and learning.

I get the feeling he is going to propel the club in ways Eales couldn’t, just hope the club still feels like Newcastle United.

Just had time to watch the video. I warm to him. Excited to see the fruits of his labours.

Yea, I mean calm the fuck down everyone and don't hang on every word looking for a problem or insult at every turn. Welcome the lad see what he does. Didn't work with Mitchell tbf.

Let’s take the following example: “the energy of a full stadium is what feeds my soul”.

If somebody dropped this in an interview, my mind would be made up then that we could go no further.

These individuals are paid millions and given literal training to learn how to make it sound convincing and realistic. He has thought about saying that sentence and then taken the decision to actually say it out loud, presumably because he thinks that it’s what people want to hear on their first impression of him. I know what feeds your soul, David: money. It’s ok, we don’t need to talk about it. Just say “I’ve heard it’s one of the best atmospheres in sport and I can’t wait to see it in person”. Grand - looking forward to having you.

I know North Americans trade in exuberant bullshit and generic platitudes, but at least give me the credit of assumed intelligence.

Obviously it’s not that deep and the in-house interviewer has the journalistic edge of a satsuma, so it’s an inevitable mutual fluff piece. It’s really good to have him on board and I hope this one sticks and really does want to apply his talent, knowledge and experience in a way which reaps positive benefits. I remember when we hired Eales I did think that Atlanta United was a not particularly impressive career achievement, so seeing someone who has apparently succeeded or at least survived at huge name sporting institutions is really encouraging. The Leafs are enormous in Canada, we all know what Real are and I think I’m right in saying the Knicks are at least historically one of the major NBA franchises (despite being shit for a large part of recent history).

Another morning, another read back of people complaining about someone before they’ve even got through the door.
Aye a few bits of buzzword bingo here and there, but seems genuinely enthused and energised about the job. As much as you can hope from an interview with a CEO.

Knicks are historically huge but yes on court they've been mostly a disaster until recently (they're good rn) and tbf during the period he was actually working there I think it mostly coincided with their current position of being good.

So if anything that reflects positively on him that the only real period of consistency since the 90s that they've had and he was working there while it happened.

I think he comes across really well tbh.

Tonnes of experience, clearly a lot of knowledge and a big book of contacts that will be of significant benefit to us.

Yeah he comes out with a few generic cliches, but he genuinely seems happy to be here.

Here’s hoping he delivers on his promise of a cupboard full of hardware.

Someone speaking in cliches and dripping with cheese is rarely going to land well on Tyneside, no matter what their profession

If a happy American brimming with positivity tells me to “have a nice day” my natural inclination is to reply “fuck off man, I’m quite happy having a cynical scowling day thanks”

And I think I speak for everyone on Tyneside
