My internet reading about Wilson says he's most like Edu - a balanced operator who knows how to work with ownership, manager, scouting team etc. Very collaborative guy, super bright, not some recruitment savant but very good at steadying an entire organization.

We need a DOF that can come in and work well with the people at the club, has decent contacts and relationships with clubs and agents, and that can work on and finalise deals.

Hopefully Howe has been consulted as well as we need to bring in someone that can work with him.

We must have a DOF at the club or we will always be at a disadvantage, as we got a glimpse of this past summer.

It's why I have previously said if there is no DOF Howe can work with then he's going to have to go at some point. If he has to be involved in picking one then let him do so.

Hopefully the next guy sticks as there's been too much instability with that role.

I think Howe and Ashworth did work together OK.

Not surprised if there were clashes and friction, but when Ashworth left Howe's main response seemed to be annoyance that he hadn't seen through a long term project. And then it was reported that he had recommended Howe for the Man U job, leading to his comedy sacking.

It was Mitchell who seemed to just annoy everyone, not just Howe, before then leaving at the worst time.

So I reckon he can work with the right DOF, even if it doesn't always go smoothly and there are disagreements - which is probably healthy.

I think its crackers to suggest that Howe is some sort of problem child for every DoF.

He doesn't want someone signing players who are going to make his team worse. What about the medium to long term, I hear you say?... that will mean loads to Howe when hes sacked for under performance.

No director of football should sign players that a manager doesn't want and every manager should be conscious of the medium to long term health of the club.

During Howes tenure weve signed something like 80% of players who are 25 and younger.

During Howes tenure hes improved every single player to a degree, young and old.

Virtually every player Howe has managed, their value has risen... quite considerably.

So he signs young players, he improves them and adds value to the club but we should be worried that Howe is the problem?

Mitchell was a mouthy cunt who wanted to sign cheap foreign players to flip for profit. Only he gained from that scenario.

I dont want to be Brighton. I want to be what we are now, which is a club who signs players who are on the cusp of being top players and who occasionally can be moved on for big money but not as a prerequisite part of their signing for the club in the first place.

I've said it before but take the managing and coaching out of his job and Howe would be one of the most coveted Directors of Football around. His hit rate with players is outstanding and very often with players that everyone is saying "him!?" about.

Newcastle United are set to appoint Ross Wilson as Sporting Director to restore stability and strengthen recruitment after a turbulent summer.

I right clicked google searched the handle and it wasn't exactly the content I expected from the first result;

I don’t get why we go for Ashworth, who oversaw Brightons 5mil - 100mil in 2 seasons transfers, but have, as far as I know not brought in a much broader scouting team. The position we’re in, we need at least 2 for France probably 3 to watch U21s, 2 for Spain, 1 for Germany who attends U21s semi regularly, 1 for Belgium who does  8/20, 1 for Czech/Hungary/Austria, 1 for Italy, 1 for the Baltics and Turkey, and a couple for South America. That’s how you find Caceidos l, Alvarez’s, de Bruynes and train em to take over the first team. Only way we make it. Unless the league says we spend what we want. I’d rather we did it through smart scouting

To all Newcastle United fans,

As I settle into my new role, I wanted to take a moment to extend a heartfelt thanks for the warm welcome I have received.

Since arriving last week, I have had so many conversations with people inside and outside the club. I’ve gained invaluable insights, and I’m looking forward to connecting and engaging with more of you in the weeks and months to come.

I’m also looking forward to getting out into the community in the coming weeks to meet more of you and understand what makes this region so special.

My first impression is this is one united family, on and off the pitch. It is the people who make this football club so special and it is a privilege for me and my family to now be a part of it.

I’m also truly excited about the future that lies ahead of us. My aim is to build on the tremendous work that preceded me with a renewed sense of alignment for everyone, helping us to grow and win together.

While I have seen, heard and felt your pride and passion at close hand in recent days, I strongly suspect it will be nothing compared to what I will experience at St. James’ Park in the coming days.

I can’t wait to be with you for my first game as CEO on Saturday and to be alongside you for the phenomenal journey ahead of us. The best is yet to come.

David

Its a little thing to say but a big thing to hear. It would have been ghost-written anyway so not even penned by Hopkinson. The whole letter is an entire shambles.
