I’ve always been impressed with how he has overcome difficult periods.

I thought he did well to get 7th last season. Mid season I think he made a lot of mistakes but we ended strongly.

This season I had no idea what to expect.  Would we challenge with top 5 due to less games? Would we fall away due to squad staleness? I backed Howe to get the full season no matter what but I was deeply concerned after West Ham. I never questioned his job but all the indicators were poor. Then we turned it around. Went on a great run.

Most people in football media expected us to fade this season.  Few pundits expected us to get Europe at all.  Now o would be disappointed with anything less than Europa League.

have heard a few of people comment on how he 'out-tacticed' Slot which I think is accurate

nice to see him getting the that kind of credit - has done similar against Ange, Arteta and Emery to name a few

Liverpool didn't know what hit them with those deep corners towards Burn, almost led to a Bruno goal before Burn scored, love how he saved that for this game

the way we isolated Salah and attacked them down their right was also brilliant

and playing over their press to win second balls worked a treat

totally dominated them - like nobody saw this coming so absolutely brilliant from Howe!

More impressively - he’s found different ways to do it.

Arsenal away in the semi this season. Was the first time he/we went away to a big boy and proper done them.

I actually enjoyed Man Utd at home in 22/23 more than most games. Late Sunday, 2-0 but felt like a proper hiding. Had so many class games at home under him to be fair, but I love that one.

Aye. Went into the tie thinking if we keep it within 1, maybe even 2 goals at a push, we'd have a chance here.

Going 2-0 up away, then the "shut up shop" 5-5-0 for the last 10 or so minutes just to not give them a sniff was perfection.

He's also shown again that he's excellent at being able to reverse negative momentum too.

A lot of this is down to his "don't get too high / don't get too low" mantra imo.

Spot on - he's overcame that doubt for me too. Plus we smacked a full strength Arsenal 4-0 over two legs as well - and showed huge tactically flexibility to achieve that.

This cup win should give him pretty much unlimited credit in the bank going into the next couple of years to get the next step right.

+1

I probably don't agree with him being rated 'A' in cf's recent poll, but the jubilation is understandable. I still think he has growth ahead of him, and he has development left to be able to manage a squad competing on multiple fronts (i.e. Europe) over the course of a season, and to develop a style which is less taxing on the team - but as you and BrownBottle said, he has earned the right.

I mean, there’s one better manager in the ‘best league in the world’. That’s quite a strong case for being elite.

Well posted. And Eddie was taking over a club with fewer resources in a far weaker position.

I called this a while back. This guy is a rare talent.

Nice to read all the praise on him. Beating Arsenal twice and Liverpool in a final with a score or 5-1 is insane, proves his tactical game is top. Would be one of our best seasons ever if we can finish 5th

I quite like how despite his success of late, he still has areas he/we can improve on, like substitutions, rotation during busy schedules, our possession game etc

Considering the fact he seems to obsess over the game and improving, it makes me think he can still take us up another level or 2 going forward

Though some of potential improvements I mentioned will require good recruitment to enable it

Like to give credit to Amanda Staveley for getting  us the right manager for our club.Eddie totally gets the club and the fans and hos team play in the right way.

The only area that I can see him needing to learn, is how to rotate the squad when form dips. If he can balance changing 1 or 2 players every now and then to keep freshness, then those 9 game winning runs can turn into league winning runs.

There have been points this season where Gordon, Bruno, Joelinton, Murphy and even Isak could have benefited from just a two week rest... evidenced by Joelintons form since returning from injury.

Obviously Howe needs the squad to do this, which hopefully will come in time.

In terms of coaching and matchday, I've nothing but pure awe.

Absolutely this.  When pundits, journalists and football insiders were saying she should go for Gerrard or Lampard or give Cabbageheed a "fair chance," she -- a person with no serious football background -- came up with Howe and Emery.  Maximum respect to Amanda.

Howe is such a perfect fit for us. His steadiness and understatement is vital to our success imo. What has impressed me most is his willingness - more accurately, his determination - to make himself better as a manager every single day. I don't think there are very many managers out there, and I would include some of the biggest names in this group, who are constantly improving themselves year on year. His attention to detail is second to none, and that is most notable in his own improvement. He was considered merely an offensive-minded coach when he arrived, within a year he was marshaling one of the meanest defensive units in the Premier League. He's improved our set pieces dramatically, he's improved our ability to control games and play from ahead. And just look at the difference between our cup final performances in 2023 and this year. Overcoming the psychological hurdle of our drought was remarkable.

He's navigated a very difficult stretch without significant first team investment and with a massive overhaul behind the scenes - and changed our captain, in a move that was pretty ballsy - while never wavering publicly and never blaming anyone or anything for our trouble. He has a real air of authority without being a pompous prick. He's led the club with such class and dignity; I'm always appreciative of how well he speaks and how he's able to communicate effectively.

I'm not going to compare him to Sir Bobby or Keegan because those two are emotionally connected in their own special ways. But for me, I've never been more confident about our future under anyone else than I am with Howe.

She wanted Emery from memory - who was spooked when she leaked the story early to the press.  Had she not done that, it would've been Emery as NUFC manager.  She did state that Howe was PIF's preferred candidate.

Think he's started doing it - especially with Isak. Basically said he gave Isak a rest at Liverpool. Isak needs it.

We don't have viable alternatives to our midfielders, so I think signing a new CM is just behind RW, GK, and CB. A 4th CM plays more minutes than a back-up striker imo.

Agree, I think it's very important that he seems to relish learning to get better at his craft. Going to Spain during his hiatus from management was well documented, and he's happily admitted he wanted to get better. There's undoubtedly been times when he's been outdone by his opposite in the other dugout, but then he's come back and put it right next time round, Emery being a good example.

He's had sticky patches, and he'll probably have more this season, but you feel confident he'll come up with an answer. He's the most intelligent manager I've seen in our colours, the only one who could come close was probably Rafa, but he was far more cautious.

I said on here a while ago that I would be happy if we moved Eddie on in the Summer. I was completely wrong and should have more faith. Every time we have a sticky patch he comes out of it with answers but still based around his attacking 433 and I've learned to trust him. Instead of being a reactionary spoiled brat. After the scumbags that have managed us in the past Eddie is perfect.
