We needed someone to tighten up that defence and his track record showed that was always going to be a problem. He’s here now, but as I said just before he’s matching what I thought would happen. I obviously hope he can keep us up, but just can’t see it. On 19/12/2021 at 18:03, Away Toon said: While Eddie fiddles NUFC burns.

Superior Acuña Posted Wednesday at 16:44 Share Posted Wednesday at 16:44 I reckon I was pretty happy with Howe from the start, though maybe not as excited as for Emery. What he did with Bournemouth was clearly a big achievement and never saw the eventual relegation as negating that. However I did start to question him last year when it started to feel like we’d been mediocre for about a year (Nov to Nov).
Geogaddi Posted Wednesday at 16:58 Share Posted Wednesday at 16:58 (edited) I reckon 99% of us all wanted Emery ahead of Eddie at the time to be fair . Both have proven to be two of the best managers in the league since they were appointed but Eddie has done a better job than Emery with the cup win and likely finishing above Villa again this season . We were at a far lower starting point than Villa as well. I don't think Emery would have got Newcastle like Eddie has either . And I was sick to death of their negativity, especially those whopulled the same shit with that poor run of results with Rafa. Many have since laudably held their hands up, but a few just went dormant, and pull the same shit over and over whenever we hit a bad run. Hopefully the Cup will have caused them to think before they type when it happens again.

David Edgar Posted Wednesday at 19:29 Share Posted Wednesday at 19:29 This is a credit to the Howe-Tindal partnership. When the leadership from the top is so strong that the organisation can just maintain course even when the guy at the top steps away for a short while. LiquidAK Posted Wednesday at 20:34 Share Posted Wednesday at 20:34 Credit to Tindall and the staff, but it's a testament to how tight knit and well drilled the whole coaching staff is that we can lose our manager for a few games and things still keep ticking along

Erikse Posted Wednesday at 20:43 Share Posted Wednesday at 20:43 (edited) We all know how Howe is one of the very best when it comes to getting the best out of the less good players in the squad. Heck, he might even be the best at that out there. But he also gets the best out of the purples. It doesn't matter who you are, he'd probably be able to make some of us look like PL players, if he'd be given some time to pull it off.
