Lower league wind up merchant, not someone who should be remotely responsible for anything tactical. I tend to agree. He's the guy responsible for our defensive setup as well I believe? While other teams are bringing in specialist coaches to focusing on incremental improvement and details, we (one of the most ambitious clubs in the league apparently) are not. timeEd32 Posted Tuesday at 14:21 Share Posted Tuesday at 14:21 We are such a sloppy team. Currently joint 2nd in the league with 10 errors that have led to a shot. In the entirety of 2022/23 we made 10 errors that led to a shot (4th best). We're also 2nd in the league in number of times dispossessed (12.4 per game). This was 9.55 in 2022/23. I thought the central point was that "Tindall clearly doesn’t have a clue," and is a "lower league wind up merchant, not someone who should be remotely responsible for anything tactical." Weird how these people are befitting of these labels now, whilst we've hit some ropey form, not when we were enjoying two of the best seasons in recent memory. Decided to pop my head into this thread for the first time since Sunday and thats the first thing I saw. Can't imagine how bad it was Sunday evening, mental takes. Well we just employed a director of football and a performance director, and it sounds like we’re doing work on stats as well. Would expect further improvements of the technical staff. Yeah thats 1 thing that has infuriated me this season. We give up possession 1 way or another far to easily.

Curious to know about 23/24. Assuming that it's somewhere in between, it does indicate that our opposition has found out how to set up and press us. I know Eddie has talked about how they do tweaks and adjustments to the tactics all the time as a counter to when the topic of formations have come up in press conferences, but hopefully he's working on implementing more drastic changes to fix this. It wasn't a surprising stat to see based on how we've played and conceded goals this season.
AyeDubbleYoo Posted Tuesday at 14:50 Share Posted Tuesday at 14:50 (edited) Definitely the worst feature of our play (errors and giving up possession), compounds everything else as well. Edited Tuesday at 14:51 by AyeDubbleYoo
Mahoneys Tache Posted Tuesday at 14:50 Share Posted Tuesday at 14:50 Based on absolutely no evidence whatsoever, I think he’s been used to running everything and that’s how he likes it. There may be an issue with adapting to the new hierarchy / arrangements and that might be being played out in sticking to his guns and being inflexible with tactics and selections and staveley leaving the set up has probably changed the dynamics dramatically in terms of how much agency he has over every aspect of the club. I could also be talking out my arse. whatever, the people who own us will inevitably be asking questions about why the money invested so far is not leading to targets being met. While this is not ideal at all I suspect they will be considering his position and options. they are businessmen and they will be thinking like businessmen and will not necessarily be open to the nuances of football and the complexities of it all. It was mentioned on Sky that we've had 50 corners without a goal, and apparenly if you add in cup games it's closer to 80. When you have a side of fairly big lads you don't think that's a bit concerning?

If that does happen then the people in charge are completely clueless. What targets should we meet considering where we were and how much has been invested? From an investment point of view we are where we deserve to be.

I have a vivid memory of a short corner move that ended up with Gordon whipping in a cross from the edge of the box that led to a goal at the end (or second half) of last season...? Or was it a free kick?
Colos Short and Curlies Posted Tuesday at 15:14 Share Posted Tuesday at 15:14 Unforced errors, players missing passes and shots that they would normally bury in their sleep, being caught out of position. There are too many examples and too many players guilty of this for it not to be in part linked to the tactics. We're talking the finest of margins in many cases and players not being comfortable with the shape and tactics will lead to these margins falling the wrong side. It's one of the reasons for the new manager bounce, they tend to come in and bring it back to being really basic. I genuinely want to be wrong on this, but there are just too many things hinting towards Howe having peaked with us.

But even that example you gave there....it would be nice to see some inventive short corners mixed in given the balls lobbed towards Burn are inevitably going to end up skewing off his head into the stands. janpawel Posted Tuesday at 15:15 Share Posted Tuesday at 15:15 The thing with Howe imo is that he seems exactly the type of manager to review, tweak and improve his systems and playstyle, he seems very intelligent, thoughtful and intentional, imagine having a chat with him, asking him about if he'd consider something different as evidence is showing something not working And him just saying 'no'. Just doesn't add up
