I don’t think there was an issue with the system tbf - I think Howe probably made the right call.  It’s Anfield, not sure I’d expect much more tbh.  Sloppy play has cost us more than any tactical call (though I do think Howe can be a bit too reactive with subs).

I think we’ve played ok, I don’t think losing away to Liverpool is one to pin on the manager tbh.  A proper refresh in the summer looks vital tbh - there’s too many players in the squad past their sell by date.

Their full backs are the main chink in their armour, imo. I don't think tonight's shape really helped us target them.

Pope starting, Gordon playing centrally despite never offering anything ever when he plays there and Liverpool’s weakness being their right back’s defensive ability, the instruction of Burn or Schar to step up constantly leaving us with three at the back when we’re countered, Willock starting over Miley and Gordon taking every set piece even though his delivery is shit. That’s just tonight. 
 

I love Howe but I just don’t get what the plan was tonight other than to not get beat heavily. Granted Isak’s injury puts us on back foot tonight but I just don’t get the reason for the 4-4-2 which just exposes our slow as fuck spine.

It’s a weak mentality to not even try though. What was our plan today to win the game? We turned up to lose like we always do at Anfield.

Liverpool are a better team and got the result literally everyone expected

that said I think it's a closer game with Isak 

 

other way around them without Salah who knows 

 

just annoyed that once again we're struggling for any momentum leading up to the final

I don’t expect us to pick up points at Man City or Liverpool, but it would be good to watch us turn up and at least look like we are trying to have a go.

 

Over both games we have managed just 6 shots, which is dreadful whatever way you look at it.

 

I doubt they have played many teams at home who are as shot shy and toothless as we line up.

We did get behind them twice in the first half, if Wilson finishes, might have given the game a different look.

We were poor tonight but Wilson missed a good chance and I’m sorry but you just can’t look past the fa t we haven’t signed anyone of note for 3 bloody windows. Squad is stale as fuck. Look at the players Liverpool have starting and coming off the bench.

One was offside though and i’m certain that had he scored the second, they would have went up the other end and scored again. They cruised through the game tonight. I’m being negative but i’m so sick of seeing this kind of performance at this ground. It’s infuriating and it’s a weak mentality. We’re beat before the game even starts.

Some of it is our own doing though, wasting £40m on Harvey Barnes, £15m on Osula and not selling players when we have the chance and hanging onto them until they go stale or have no value.

I don't think Liverpool have a meaningful defensive weakness TBH, they're immense without the ball. People talk about Trent but he has plenty of people around him to make up for his deficiencies.

 

And when we get the ball, we can't really keep it because of the amount of technically-lacking players we have.

Some of it isn't criticism, just observation and reality. I thought we had moments and spells, we just rarely turned it in quality final third moments. Liverpool have polar opposite - and absolutely in form and special forward line. They create or capitise on errors, and instantly are dangerous. They are where they are for being brilliant. We weren't awful, but we couldn't raise our game to theirs.

I’ve just gone through Liverpools home stats in games this season, we managed 3 shots and all were off target which is the worst from any away team at Anfield in the league, even behind Ipswich who only managed 3 shots but all of them were on target.

 

Man City was slightly better, we managed 3 shots and one on target, which is the second worst attacking performance against them after Ipswich who managed one shots that they scored with.
