If we don’t beat Liverpool in the final and fail to qualify for the Champions League, then I think there is a good chance the club move him on, considering us not reaching Champions League will likely mean one of Forest, Bournemouth, Brighton or even Villa have.

His football looks every bit as stale as some of our players, it is hard to believe how bad we play at times with the quality of some of our midfield and attack.

He needs to freshen it up with what we have, before the season gets away from us.

He won’t ever be moved on in summer. But the signings 100% for me have to be with a clear plan for being better with ball, so if we had to do the unthinkable and sack him, the squad is set up for many managers. At the moment, I don’t think our squad is good for managers and Howe is getting best out of it, whilst being inconsistent at times.

Well, depends on what owner would do with Howe situation in coming summer we will get the 'real' idea about their ambition.

If Howe stay then it's simple, we are for a small organic growth & we better prepare our heart about losing our top players.

Or

He get replaced by more serious managers like inzaghi for example & then we can hope that he will unlock the potential of our top players to win clutch matches & titles.

Howe has reached his ceiling, we gonna lose the upcoming final with a generic 2-0 scoreline without any fightback cause we have a neo-rodgers/moyes in the wheel.

Just popped on to say it's great you lot know better than Eddie. It is great, he's a dud, I get that. He's reached his ceiling and isn't anywhere near Keegan, who also won fuck all, or Bobby Robson, who you hounded/booed out

Thanks fit that, your input is greatly appreciated

We must be the only club in a cup final and challenging for the CL with half a squad of Championship players spending time talking about if the manager should be sacked or which of our best players we should sell. I’m not immune but it is mental when you think about it.

Where do you go if you want to discuss substitutions, squad rotation and game management? Not everything is about sacking or selling, but we should be able to discuss how to get the best out of the squad available.

Of course, we just can’t expect the manager to have us playing like a squad that has reliable and consistent quality throughout it.

What would we expect of any replacement though.

It would have to be better than challenging for the CL every season and two cup finals. Its a big ask.

Its really stale right now, we know the reason why and if were forbidden from doing anything about it there is the arguement that a change in manager could freshen things up but with our squad I highly doubt it personally.

The biggest issue we have now is not Eddie it’s our ageing defence and lack of squad depth. When you consider our defence had an average age in excess of 30 today and that includes 22 year old fullback. Too old and too slow.

They tried to sign a young international English CB.

Sure it will get addressed.

He’s not an accountant.

Neither are we, but as a fan base we still consider the repercussions of buying players.

I’m not digging out Eddie. Just saying that we overspent with his recruitment, and now we have to underspend.

We never really discuss things on here after a bad result. It’s more about one half of the forum trying to talk the other half into taking the gun out of their mouth.

See for me, Howe hasn’t shown he’s reached his ceiling when he’s needing to still play Murphy RW, only has like one striker and the slowest CBs in the league.

Can only fully judge Howe IMO as a certainty, is if we signed GK / CB / CM / RW, then added a couple young raw squad players. If we’re seeing same and not pushing on, then we can say ceiling reached. Two cup finals is something, whilst a win off top 4 too.

I’ve said it in other threads, but I think the straddling of the PSR rules was a calculated gamble and by virtually every metric it’s worked. We’ve remained competitive at a level we probably didn’t expect to get to so quickly and avoided a points deduction. It’s not much fun for us supporters in the moment but the longer term picture from a club POV is rosier because of it.

However part of the reason it’s worked is because of who is in the dugout. He’s managed to extract the maximum out of a squad that is in parts pretty average, and doesn’t have a face on in his press conferences. If it was ‘his’ recruitment I think he’s held up his end of the bargain tbh.

This thread is a little bit "how dare you". Howe is not perfect, but hes still doing a good job I think. The table is so tight so in a couple of weeks we may sit here saying its not that good. The biggest problem now is how we are gifting in possession, and not capable of putting two passes together. I mean Wolves are superior to us when it comes to using the ball for example. If they can, we can.

He has to be given some of the blame for certain things:

- Not improving our set piece prowess at all during his tenure (and I include not being able to coach the tallest defender in the league to pose any attacking threat at all)

- Persisting with players who no longer offer anything at this level

- The substitution debacle

- A seeming inability to inspire players at half time

But the players have to take some of the blame as well, and the board take most of it for not supplying Eddie with the tools he needs to move us forward.

It’s a huge summer ahead for us. Let’s hope we’ve got European football so we can keep hold of some of our gems and attract more.

Agree. He's done a great job, but we have clear issues with ball retention and at the back, and we have to consider how best to address it.

I erred a bit and wondered about replacing him after the west ham at home loss, and quickly regretted it. He's well earned a chance to refresh the squad in the summer. If we don't refresh the squad somewhat were I him i'd ponder walking as we'll just go backwards.

There's 0% chance he walks. He'll never get a bigger or better job than this.

Exactly the same for me. West Ham looked bleak but what I thought looked like the players potentially giving up on Howe was simply a bad performance. Absolutely ludicrous if he's had to work with a mostly identical squad for two years and not given the opportunity to rejuvenate it once we're less restricted. The evidence is there that he can key taking us forward
