I thought it was a good interview and he makes valid points, especially about what would happen if he failed to qualify for Europe for 2 seasons running, which is a point I have made on here a number of times.

I would go further and say he could be in trouble if we don’t qualify for the Champions League and miss out to Nottingham Forest, but maybe winning the cup will save him for a period, like it did for Ten Hag.

What doesn’t get mentioned, and what I think is the reason some sections of the fan base get on Howe’s back when we lose, is that we play some really unattractive football for the vast majority of our games and have since the start of last season, with a scattering of memorable performances here and there, or individual brilliance by Isak.

People will tolerate our style of football if we are winning, but will call out terrible displays and performances when we lose.

You would think it would make it difficult for the club commercially too, as we are not going to attract foreign fans to support the club and buy merchandise with performances like against West Ham on Monday, even though we won.

Maybe they will bring someone in to try and freshen it up, if they do then you have to hope it is someone that plays attractive football.

We’re a billion miles away from being a horrible footballing team. The players turn in bad performances and it is unsightly.

i have never ever felt like I am tolerating Eddie Howes mags.

Eddie's football throughout his career as a manager has been positive and progressive. We've taken a step backwards; last season partly because of injuries, this season I think it's maybe been about trying to change how we play and that taking time or us just not having the players for it. I do think there are questions about how poor we are in possession of the ball and how we get penned into our own half so often in second halves however, wherever we finish Eddie needs more time and needs to be properly backed in the summer. Expecting him to qualify us for CL football when we haven't freshened the squad up for three windows while all our rivals have is absurd and it's even more absurd that he's on track to actually achieve it

For me the intensity it requires makes you wonder if it’s scalable to 50+ games a season.

And then is he a man that can win trophies ? Any trophies?

Emerys teams tend to struggle with European cup runs in the league. But we know he can win trophies. Villa won’t win the CL but they’ve got a great chance of winning the FA Cup. Howe has to answer both questions.

The question about how poor we are in possession can at least partly be put down to lack of quality in some areas. Until we get top tier performers in all areas of the pitch, you could argue it would be difficult to play possession football against the best teams. He can't really be judged properly until he's got a team where he can compete on a truly equal footing.

Great summary.

Think he’ll be gone in the summer regardless. Don’t think him and the club are on the same page regarding buying and selling players.

Based on Howe, Mitchell and Eales at separate occasions this season saying they are on the same page, I think you might be onto something here.

Probably right. They’re not likely to come out and say they’re not though are they.

More based on them signing no players, the one they did sign not getting any minutes behind someone who clearly can’t run and the manager spitting his dummy out last summer when Mitchell got the job.

Ah, you mean Eddie's page where he's written "buy, at least, one player over 3 windows" and the clubs page, where they've written "No"

Glad that's cleared up.  🤔😂😂

Of course he wants players, doesn’t mean they’re the same ones the club/recruitment department want. And you can’t give him players he doesn’t want or sell those he wants to keep.

You can't base anything on an assessment of what happened before Mitchell came in. Even the window after he arrived, there was no time for a new strategy.

I don't know why we would be anything but confident TBH. Everyone involved is a professional and will work out what it takes to do the best job they can with the money they have to spend.

Surprised anyone gives two shits what Simon Jordan thinks. Who cares? What qualifies him to comment, his multiple years of successful club football management? He will have not the faintest idea of what the club thinks and plans. Provocative, tedious imbecile.

Last season we actually played great football apart from that patch we had tons of injuries mid season. Tons of goals.

this season has definitely been worse and I think the team has regressed majorly whilst others have gotten stronger. But the fact we are still competing and playing decently is down to Howe.

what that athletic article refers to is Stavely originally and everyone at NUFC now think Howe is super elite and has potential to have a lasting legacy like Ferguson. I hope he does because can’t imagine anyone else being such a good fit whilst also being a classy operator and great communicator

We’re Newcastle fans, I cannot begin to understand the entitlement of some.

...or their basic inability to understand human behavior. Mad suggestions like the club should be looking for another manager while still employing him, or that he should share his duties, are so far removed from the realities of human interaction.

Eales and Mitchell have both described Howe as an "elite coach" who they want to stay for the long term.

The Athletic has also reported Yasir is pleased with him.

Definitely screams goner in the summer.

They've hit the jackpot with Howe, could be catastrophic for the club to get back onto the managerial market for no reason at all.

Makes no sense, they have to have a strategy for the club but they also need to keep their key person happy.

There's no guarantee a new manager hits the ground running - this is why when I get frustrated at the team I often remind myself clubs change managers all hte time and most of the time they regress.

Quite right. "I've always said Noocarsue are a big club. A big club in Noocarsue." Bellend

No one’s perfect but there’s only been two managers I’d put above him in our history / within my lifetime. He could shoot up to the very top with a win on Sunday.

I love the guy and will back him through thick and thin.

There’s also not an obvious candidate or easy lever for us to improve.

Look at the managers Spurs, Bayern, Man U, Liverpool, Juve and Chelsea have hired in recent years.  None of them have the same trajectories or accolades Ancelotti, Mourinho, Klopp, Guardiola, Tuchel, Conte etc. had.

That brand name manager era seems to be over.  At least the ones that do the rounds. There’s only really Alonso that’s a massive name not at a super club.

You could argue that tactically Iraola has got the better of Howe this season, one of the games I thought we were comprehensively outplayed, and by a team with less resources. But that was one match, and despite them having a great season, we don't know how he will pan out long term.

Regardless, tactics aren't everything either, Howe is also a great fit for Newcastle in that he feels the city in his bones. You won't get that with many managers, and probably why Rafa was so loved while he was here as well.

I've read some stupid stuff in my time on this forum but this is up there for the worst.

It's not just full of negativity, it's outright bullshit. We've broken dozens of attacking records under Howe and hes surpassed every reasonable expectation any sensible fan could expect.
