Not on current evidence, we've had best part of two summer transfer windows following the same pattern of going for top drawer only and being rebuffed.

It's the right thing to do and admirable to be so staunch towards improving the ceiling of the squad, the downside is (seemingly) the stubbornness to do nothing if we can't get those top targets when the "floor" of the squad improving would still be a good step forwards ahead of a campaign featuring lots of extra games.

I think the previous window we didn’t really want to buy people, all I can remember is Guehi pursuit.

Either way, he’s a clever man so he will learn.

I agree, I just hope he does it quickly enough for our current depleted setup to react and do the necessary deals.

This may seem a reactionary thing to say and in a couple of weeks may looks stupid BUT, if we end the transfer window in the position we are currently in right now, I hope Howe decides to walk away. I cant see anything else genuinely shocking the club into action/change other than that.

If Howe has as much power as he seems to he could be culpable himself.

If Isak goes and this transfer window turns out to be as bad as it's looking right now, anybody think Howe might not be as invested in the 'project' as he once was ?

I'd be pissed off if i were him.

Isn’t he the one running the transfers currently? Him and his nephew?

I would be so pissed off if I had to go to pre-season tour with not a single number 9 in the squad. And he was very clear he wanted quick signings.

Club owes it to Howe to get our shit together - and soon. Otherwise he might walk away at some point. Nobody likes to work like this.

the board is doing what my company did, a colleague went on maternity leave and I had to do her job for a year with no extra pay while doing al the work I was doing before too.

at the very least Mitchells salary should be sent to Howe on top of his managerial salary its only fair.

bit said how the window is going with mentioned at the start of summer how we need to be quick and decisive as huge season is coming up where the added CL fixtures and fighting for top5 in league again will be brutal combo.

PL starts in 3 weeks almost, I would expect due to pre season Howe now has bit less time to get involved in transfers than he had all June, early July.

If there's one thing that gives me comfort its knowing EH will likely be very calm and will be figuring it all out to get us where we need to be.

He'll be working round the clock to fix things.

Or he'll quit [emoji38]

Only so much one guy can take. Id be surprised if Eddie is anything other than seething with how this is going.

Would this situation push Howe over the edge?

Nope. He's more like Bruno than Isak. He wouldn't do it suddenly and leave the fans in the dust.

You say that and I agree but it must be understood at because we are a bit of a joke, all of this falls on Howe to sort out again. He must be questioning why bother if he isn't he's absolutely mental.

His stock is so high he can get a job at a cartel club without doubt.

I get what you are saying. I just don't think he would ever do it at this very specific moment in time just before the season.

I tend to agree with this, he's had to work through the last few windows with no money and I'm sure he'd have been really looking forward to freshening things up this Summer - well, he said so much himself.

He seriously needs to be backed over the next 5 weeks otherwise I can imagine he'll be having doubts.

I also would feel that way but he has to be thinking about it on a human level?

Why should he have to pick up all of this shit?

He maybe needs to change his own tact too though. The strategy for this window so far has been poor, and he's about as in control of the process as he could be.

Yes and no, don't get me wrong he rules the roost when it comes to which players, that's without question but not a chance he's deciding how much we are paying per player etc.

To be honest it's hard to tell who's at fault - probably indicating more than one party is.

I'm loathe to blame Eddie for much though because of how much good he's done.

He's also the reason Mitchell left as far as I was aware. Like you said, he brought in his own nephew so he's got the men he wants in place, at least at the lower management levels.

He’s being offered as much money as the club is permitted to spend under the rules, he’s the one running the transfers, and he works more closely with the players than anyone else at the club so if anyone was going to be able to convince Isak to stay, it would have been him.

The only way in which he can be more “backed” going forward is to appoint professional staff to steer the transfer side so we can relieve his workload and let him focus on what he’s actually good at.
