We were two games away from finishing above them last year.

Not saying we can compete for the league like.

Yeah, despite the difference in player material. We overperformed thanks to Howe and they underperformed (they were saving energy for CL in some games towards the end after having lost out on 1st). They have also strengthened the already good depth prelly well in the summer. I just really rate their squad, and if Arteta doesn't win it this season with this team, then it's all on him. Especially as Liverpool and Man City isn't all that (bar Haaland) in comparison, as they don't have the same balance in the team.

I think Arsenal wanted Bruno, but he picked us to be a regular? Not sure, though.

Arsenal fans were quite unhappy at the time when we got Bruno. They couldn't believe they weren't after him at that price.

The season after that they got Rice, which I guess was a pretty ok compromise.

We beat them 4-0 on aggregate in a cup semi final, it is indisputable

That's not how it works. Does Bournemouth have a much better starting 11 than us then? What about Fulham who beat us twice last year? There are tactics, matchups, and all sorts of other things going on.

If that was true, then Eddie is doing a terrible job. Which he certainly isn't.

he isn’t doing a terrible job he got us within 2 games of 2nd place despite having a squad that was not as good as Arsenal’s.

What's your combined NUFC & Arsenal XI?

Basically NUFC but Rice for Joelinton and Saka to rotate with Murphy.

I’d personally pick Raya over Pope but I don’t think Howe would.

we were unfortunately knackered / a bit off against those teams again emphasising that the issue we had / still have is that there is a drop off in squad quality in a number of areas.

we faced Arsenal on an even keel and battered them.

We have a starting XI who have beaten the winners of last years Premier League. We beat last year’s Champions League winners. Actually we thrashed them. We were really competitive recently against the La Liga winners.

We have one of the best starting XI in world football, definitely top 10. We’d beat Brazil and thrash England.

On the flip side we faced them 1 month ago at SJP with a near fully fit squad and no fatigue. In that game they produced loads of chances and beat us in the end. Both starting 11s has also changed since last season. Gyokeres hasn't been great, but atleast for them they have a real striker now.

We did win by 4 goals over 2, but I think they had more chances in both. We deserved it, but we had to play in a certain way.

All of this is irrelevant anyways as 2 games of football doesn't decide which teams has the better starting 11. That ignores the fact that there are so many other factors at play in singular matches. If we happened to lose to Burnley with a fully fit squad, does that mean that they have better players? Does Sunderland have better players than Chelsea?

Yeah some weird negativity has seeped in, I had my turn last season after the west ham loss and feeling that staverley forced out after terrible window wondered if he may want out and the club may have different plans and may be good for everyone. I was completely wrong. Now quite frankly I would stick with eddie if we got relegated. Yeah not everything is perfect, he could rotate the squad better you feel, things aren

That chap arguing that we shouldnt have a manager with so much authority and better to have a more 'modern' set up. I get that in an ideal world but there will always be behind the scenes politics etc. With our new DoF in place now and apparently friends with Eddie hopefully things wills be more professional. The behind the scenes stuff to me really illustrates how much Staverley did, remember reading it was Eales forced her out i guess cos she was doing his job a lot of the time, that did a lot of harm...

Raya, Timber, Gabriel, Saliba, Rice and Saka would comfortably make our first xi. The rest are very debatable.

Eze would for sure start for us. Currently I'd start Trossard over Gordon/Barnes, but that's closer, and could change during the season. Hall needs to stay injury free over time and get back into form. At his best he would start over Calafiori. I guess Tino would be the starting LB and Timber RB.

Anyways, I didn't mean to start a huge discussion about Arsenal. I just think it's mad to claim that we have a team which could challenge for the title. We have some great players, but even top 5 would be overperforming with our squad. It's such a stacked league, and even Spurs + Man Utd looks solid now.

I wasn’t watching in previous years but I think he’s done a good job regarding rotation considering the circumstances of needing to find available combinations due to new signings, injuries.

Balancing the need to keep players fresh but also play them enough to find some level of momentum isn’t easy and I think he’s done well for the most part.

Eddie Howe? Saying he’s “done well for the most part” must be the biggest understatement since “Michelangelo did alright on that ceiling”.

Please keep in mind I’ve watched like 10 games  I obviously do not have the context you guys do. He’s obviously excellent tho aye.

Anyone who genuinly thinks we should expect to challenge for the league currently is deluded to the point that their opinions should be disregarded completely.

If we somehow ever get comparable revenue to the likes of Arsenal, Man City, etc (in that unlikely scenario), and if Eddie is still in charge, I've no doubt we would be challenging for the title and the Champions league on a regular basis. He's the least of our problems.
